Thereโ€™s a misconception that successful businesses are built aloneโ€ฆand that if you want to be a success, you have to build alone too.

Nope.

Behind every single successful business is a network supporting the owner, and more often than not, that includes a mentor.

A mentor is a great resource for any industry professional. They can help you find your path and make decisions, be a sounding board, and help guide you in difficult decisions.

But how do you know if you need a mentor? Letโ€™s dig into the five big signs.

Your business is failing and you donโ€™t know why

Have you ever heard the phrase โ€œCanโ€™t see the forest for the trees?โ€ This is likely you in this situation.

You probably feel like youโ€™re doing everything right, but somethingโ€™s still broken, and you canโ€™t figure out what. Or maybe what youโ€™ve always done isnโ€™t working anymore and you donโ€™t know what to do to next.

Chances are youโ€™re too close to the problem and canโ€™t see your way out. Thatโ€™s where a mentor comes in. They can see your business in a new light, examine your processes in a new way, and offer suggestions you havenโ€™t considered yet.

You feel like you donโ€™t have anybody to talk to

Running a business is hard. Unless somebody else has been there, they canโ€™t understand what youโ€™re going through. And letโ€™s be realโ€ฆyour partner or best friend might try their best to be sympathetic, but itโ€™s just not the same, right?

A mentor has been there and gets it. They get what itโ€™s like when a client disputes a charge or you get a bad Yelp review. And, the best part? They can help you brainstorm a solution.

Youโ€™re battling burnout

If you know, you know… Sometimes when you’re in the four-part cycle that leads to burnout, you need help breaking free. If youโ€™re trying to break the cycle but itโ€™s not working, consider reaching out to a mentor for support and a new perspective.

You want to advance in your career, but you donโ€™t know how

If youโ€™ve achieved everything youโ€™d ever hoped to, but, honestly, you want more. But hereโ€™s the rub: you donโ€™t know what that โ€œnextโ€ is, and trying to decide which next step to take is making your brain spin.

That’s where a mentor comes in.

Mentors can see your business from a different perspective, making them a great resource for your what’s next. And, chances are, theyโ€™ve gone through a similar transition and give you clear advice.

You donโ€™t have the proper support

Great businesses arenโ€™t built in a vacuum, but many beauty professionals put finding proper business support at the bottom of their list. But having the proper support to run, grow, and expand your business is crucial.

Consider reaching out for a mentor if:

  • You donโ€™t have in-salon support from your leader and peers where you can boost each other up

  • You donโ€™t have emotional support from your partner, friends, or family

  • You donโ€™t have a business coach, mastermind, or network to bounce your business ideas off of.

If any of these signs are showing up in your life, we recommend looking for a mentor. They are a great support resource to help your business grow and flourish.
