Around here, we fully believe in โwoo-woo.โ
In the power of positivity, optimism, and asking the universe for what we want without worrying about what anybody thinks. Because I think cultivating a positive mindset is the most powerful way to make mind-blowing changes in your life.
The best way to bring some positive vibes into your world is by creating affirmations.
What are affirmations?
Affirmations are daily positive statements that help you move past and fully stop negative thoughts, self-sabotage, business and personal blind spots, stress, and anxiety.
For real.
Affirmations send the universe a heads up of what you want in your life. So if you wake up every morning, groan โNot again,โ and pull the blankets over your head in hopes that the day will just go away, guess what? The universe is fully picking up on those vibes and sending you…well, pretty much exactly what youโve asked for.
But if you open your eyes, take a deep breath, and think what an amazing day this is going to be? The universe will send you all those good vibes.
Plus, our body language can change depending on our attitude. If you see a client you love walking up to the salon doors, you totally light up, right? But if youโre dreading pulling into the salon parking lot to start your day, your body will pick up on that fact. Youโll be cranky and low energy all day, which be doomsday for your business.
By creating powerful, positive affirmations, you can start directing positive energy and good things to come your way.
How to set affirmations
Believe it or not, creating affirmations is actually super easy. Letโs dig into the five steps:
Define what you actually want
Not what you think is cool, what other people have, not what looks good on Pinterest. What YOU want.
Do you want to be a rockstar platform artist? The hottest educator on the West Coast? How about owning the top salon in town (or even state)? Maybe you want to be killinโ it behind the chair as a six-figure stylist, or maybe you want to create a schedule that lets you be fully present and home with your kids more.
None of those are wrong answers.
Brain dump all of your ideas out on paper. Just get them out. Then go through them and mark what really lights your fire.
Use โI amโ statements
โI amโ statements are some of the most powerful verbiage out there because it creates reality.
For example, which one is more powerful?
โI will be a six-figure stylist one day,โ or
โI am a six-figure stylist.โ
Ooh, girl, that last one gave you goosebumps, right?
Even if your dream isnโt a reality yet, use โI amโ statements to bring that energy to you.
You can always use other phrases instead of โI am,โ but make sure at least one of your affirmations is โI am [your dream]โ to fully bring that dream into reality.
Keep it short
The shorter it is, the easier it is to remember! That doesnโt mean thereโs a limit on how long your affirmations have to be, but try to avoid writing multiple sentences.
Think more quick statements you can recite to yourself in the morning, keep on a notepad in your car, or repeat under your breath during the day if something starts to go wrong.
Make it happy
Your affirmations should give you the good โI canโt wait for thisโ kind of goosebumps you used to get on Christmas Eve. The rush of excitement and thrill of a dream finally coming true.
If your affirmations donโt do that or even make you feel sad, go back to step one. Take the time to discover what YOU really want.
Believe it wholeheartedly
Okay, now hereโs the hard part. When you say your affirmations, close your eyes and repeat them with all your heart.
It sounds a little bit Disney, but hey, I think theyโre on to something. By putting that full heart energy out into the universe, youโre letting it know youโre open and ready for great things to happen.
How to use affirmations
Use your affirmations daily to constantly send those vibes into the universe and to remind yourself what youโre working towards.
You can write them down every morning in your journal, say them out loud as you wait for the shower to heat up, whatever. Make them a part of your morning routine.
If you need a little accountability, try a habit tracking app or mark it in your planner. It takes 66 days to make a habit, so stick with it and give yourself some grace if you miss a day.
Donโt forget to update
Affirmations are not for forever. Once you achieve your goal, set a new one and create new affirmations to bring that energy into your life!
And, if one doesnโt work for you, thatโs okay. Donโt be afraid to let it go to make room for something that does.
