The Top 8 Organizational Tools You Need for the New Year

Be honest: how many times have you walked into the new year with the goal of getting more organized?

If we were all in a room together, you’d be amazed at how many hands go up. Why? Because the idea of getting organized is downright overwhelming, right?

But one huge key to achieving the wealthy life you dreamed of when you joined this industry is getting organized. It’s no small feat, but luckily with a few key tools, you can make it happen.

Let’s dig into the top tools you need to get organized and achieve your goals!

An annual planner

Look for one that meets your needs and fits your lifestyle! Do you want one that’s small enough to keep in your bag or do you like to have a lot of space to write details? Hardcover planners stand up to a lot of wear and tear, but soft covers are easily transportable.

Don’t forget to set it up. Sit down and mark out birthdays, anniversaries, vacations, and other important events before the year kicks off. This is a small but simple way to feel organized way before January 1.

A list of your goals for the new year

We’ve dug deep into goal setting in our 4 Questions to Strategize Your New Year Goals blog and The Thrivers Team’s Top Goal Setting Tips, so check those out if you need help setting yours.

After your goals are set, write down each goal and its strategy in a place you can check in and update frequently.

Most paper planners have a notes section, which is perfect for this. The Wealthiest Year Yet planner and the Cultivate Your Year planner help you break down each goal even further.

Prefer keeping your goals digital (or both)? Trello, Asana, or Airtable are great for this.

An accountability buddy

Accountability is hands down, the secret sauce for achieving your goals. If you aren’t properly motivated, all the plans and work you put into setting each goal… won’t matter at all.

One of our favorite ways to stay accountable is with an accountability buddy. Find someone in your Thrivers Facebook group, the Thriving Stylist Insiders Facebook group, or even your salon team to check in with each month and help you stay accountable with your goals.

This is also a great resource if things aren’t quite going as planned (we’ve all been there) and you need a little support.

A stocked inspirational bookshelf

Whether your bookshelf is digital or physical, keep it full with books that fill your cup. Maybe that’s business education, mindset deep dives, or even your favorite fiction.

Make room in your weekly routine to read or listen to an audiobook. Even a few minutes can be a great way to boost your inspiration, mindset, and mood.

Podcasts

Is your podcast app clogged up with shows you never listen to? Consider this your sign to clear out your feed. Get rid of the shows you know you’ll never listen to and follow the inspirational and guilty pleasure podcasts you know will fill your cup.

Create a system to get it done

As much as we wish there weren’t, there are still basic life admin tasks that need to get done, right? Think bills, home maintenance, even the dreaded L word…laundry.

The key to managing the overflow of life tasks is to create a system to get it all done.

Some of us on the Thrivers team love to do an admin day. This is a day once a month where we get all those life tasks done: make doctors’ appointments, pay the bills, upload photos off our phones to storage.

Maybe yours is one day a month or even once a week, but dedicate time regularly to get these little life tasks done. When you do, it opens up so much more brain space to focus on moving the needle in your business.

Make a social media organizational system

If you’re here with us, you know social media is an important part of your marketing strategy, but keeping it organized? Yikes.

Try setting up a content organizational system so you always know what we’re posting when. (We have a great tool for this if you need help!)

Bonus tip: If you haven’t yet found a social media scheduler, sign up for one that works for you (our favorite is Later!), but remember, don’t auto post!

Set aside time for rest and white space

We’re not just talking spa days here, friends. We mean regular rest and recharge periods.

But when life is so incredibly busy, it can feel hard to find that space, right? Here are a few tips to help you make rest a regular thing in your life:

Have a set schedule

Maybe your work style doesn’t allow for a set 9 – 5 schedule, but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your rest. Maybe every Saturday afternoon you go for a long walk to recharge or every Wednesday evening, you have permission to veg out in front of the latest Bravo show on TV.

Take mental health days

Your mental health is just as important as your physical health, so make space for it. If you feel burnout start to creep up, schedule some off time for yourself, whether it’s during the week or on a weekend. Consider even adding a regular mental health break to keep burnout at bay.

Make room for white space

White space, time when your mind has space to just be, is key for filling up your cup, staying inspired, and cultivating creativity. If you want to learn more on how to cultivate white space, check out this blog post
