What is up and welcome back to the Thriving Stylist Podcast. I’m your host Britt Seva and yes, you do get a double dose of me this week. We are coming in with a bonus episode called “The Salon Professional’s Ascension Model.” This was a class that I shared with several thousand stylists on Sunday, February the 13th.
It was a smash.
This is a message you’re not gonna wanna miss. This is a short term episode. So we’re only gonna keep this episode on here until February 21st. So listen to it while it’s hot. It’s a long one. This is a good one to listen to on a walk or when you’re driving in the car, but make sure to binge it before February the 21st. And if after listening, you wanna check out Thrivers Society, you can head to www.thrivingstylist.com and all the details are there. Enjoy!
Well. Hello, all, and welcome to our class today. I am so beyond excited to have you here. I’m watching you in the chat and smiling to myself. We have San Francisco in the house, New Hampshire’s here, Texas is here, snowy Michigan’s here. Wichita, Kansas is here as always. I am so, so excited to be here with y’all.
Emily Rausch is in the chat with you. She’s a member of my team. So if you have any questions, if anything comes up, type it into the chat and she is here, happy to help.
Emily, I’m honored to have you. And mostly I’m excited that y’all have taken the time out of your busy Sunday to be here, to learn how to build and grow your business. One of the things I’m geeking out over right now is even a lot of the education that I taught in years past has become dated so quickly.
And this is a workshop that I’ve taught previously at the rate of $12,000 to small private organizations or brands. And the last time I taught these concepts, I said, you know, I need to bring this digitally. I need to stop charging for it and bring it free to my community, to the industry at large, because I could see the impact that it was making. And I could see how having this strategy and the step by step plan was producing real intangible results for everybody who heard the message. So I’m excited to be able to share it with you today.
Also, if you’re here live and not watching the replay, you’re gonna get a chance to have your questions answered by me. So stay active in the chat. I can see it blowing up right now, stay active in the chat. Uh, my team is there ready to pull questions as they come in throughout the experience.
If you’re on the app, down at the bottom, you’ll see the chat is available down there below. There’s also a spot that says Q&A. You could submit anonymous questions to me through the Q&A. I will check those at the end as well, but my team is skimming through the chat throughout this entire experience. So as things come up, be sure to enter them into the chat. And then at the end of class, I will get to as much as possible.
But what I will promise you is that this class is action packed. We are gonna dive mega deep. And so I’m gonna answer a lot of the questions you didn’t even know you had throughout this experience. So I’d love to know as I dive in.
Can I just get a sense of the room? If you are a salon owner, can you type into the chat, “yes”.
If you’re a salon owner, that would mean you own a business. Oh, lots of salon owners in the house. Hi, Roxy, happy Sunday, lot of salon owners. Great. Can you type into the chat if you are a booth rental stylist, can you type the word? “Yes” for me if you are a booth renter. Kelly’s a suite owner. Okay. Oh, here we go. A lot of booth renters. Okay, great. What about, can I get a yes. In the chat, if you are a commission stylist, any commission stylist and ask? Yes. Always coming in strong, honored to have you here.
I worked at a blended salon, so I was a commission stylist as well. Beautiful. And then I saw my studio suite owners come, coming in loud and proud. I know we have some in the room, more makeup artists and work in all the other ways.
This education is very well rounded. It’s going to be for absolutely everybody. And I’m really, really excited to share it with you. So let’s actually dive in. I don’t wanna waste any of your time. Let’s get into the good stuff.
Y’all welcome to the workshop today. Now, as a reminder, this is simply day one of the experience. So this is a week-long journey, should you choose to accept it. Today is where we’re setting the foundation. Imagine we were building a beautiful dream custom home. This is where we’d be pouring the concrete and really starting to create our architectural plans for our business. You can’t build a dream home if you don’t have a solid plan and we are gonna unblock some of your barriers today and dive in deep to what it looks like. Truly creating success.
Tomorrow, starting at 12:00 PM Pacific, I am going to be doing hot seat coaching and in-depth strategy for those in this room who are not yet taking home a hundred grand a year.
So can I see in the chat, if you’re brave enough to share, if you are not yet taking home a hundred grand a year? Can I just see you say “yes” in the chat so that I know? Okay, good. There’s a fair number of you. That’s great. So tomorrow I’m gonna be privately coaching you all small group style on what strategies it would take to bus through a hundred thousand and more. We’ll talk about that a bit today as well.
Now, can I see in the chat, those of you who are already taking home a hundred grand or more taking home, not earning it. Awesome. Lauren. So good. Glad to have you here, friend. Beautiful, Julie. I know that you are amazing. So Tuesday’s private coaching session is gonna be for you. Now, if you’re not yet making a hundred grand, it doesn’t mean that you can’t come on Tuesday, but I am gonna be speaking very high level, very high level.
So you wanna be in the room where it makes the most sense. Wednesday, all my salon owners who raise their hands loud and proud, Wednesday is for you. I’m gonna be doing specialized focus coaching for salon owners and managers on Wednesday. Thursday, and Friday are open Q&A for all.
So this is where we set the foundation for what it looks like to be successful in the industry for all beauty professionals. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, I do some segmented coaching. And then Thursday, Friday, we go back to open Q&A. You can come to all the sessions. You can come to the ones that just feel the most impactful to you. I don’t know about you. This is a $12,000 experience. I’ve coming into everything and cashing in, but you come to what feels the best for you. This schedule is in your PDF as well.
Now you probably noticed in the PDF, these super sexy roadmaps, did anybody see these already at the end of your workbook? And it like gave you feelings because you can see that we’re coaching through a full year of planning your business monthly, quarterly. And did you also notice that depending on where you’re at in your business, we’re looking at different things. We’re always looking at money and milestones, but for my Thriving Stylist, we’re looking at marketing retention and ops for my Scaling Stylist.
We’re looking at brand positioning, elevating experience, infrastructure, and amplifying impact, totally different to totally different objectives. And then for my leaders, we’re looking at structure standards and stability, the three S’s. So we’re gonna custom create this to map your business, but we’re only gonna set the foundation for this today. And then I’m gonna dive deep into each roadmap Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
So we’re working up to this portion. You won’t be able to complete this roadmap. If you don’t do the work today, it would actually be impossible. It’s why most people get overwhelmed in business. So we’re gonna start at the beginning and work our way up to it. And we start right here with this workshop, The 5 Steps to Building Your Career Roadmap. I’m gonna uncover for you the salon professional’s ascension model, and blow your mind on where your business stands today and where it could possibly be.
So my promise to you is that if you commit to this free experience in full you’ll know exactly how to 2X to 3X your business in just one short year and how to 5X to 10X in five, and for anybody who is looking at this thinking that as impossible, nobody does that kind of stuff.
That’s a false narrative that you’re telling yourself. I’m actually gonna share with you several examples with visuals and real numbers of people who have done exactly this and how they did it. So you’re gonna see real life examples of how you can do it too. Now there is only one thing that you need to be successful in this experience, the PDF workbook type yes, into the chat. If you already have this one, but if you don’t have it, okay, good. Most of you do, if you don’t, I want you to take your smartphone and you can use your camera and hover over this QR code here. It will instantly get you access to the workbook. The workbook’s not optional. It’s mandatory. You’ll struggle if you don’t have it. If you can’t use the QR code, the URL at the bottom will get it for you as well.
So make sure you get your hands on a copy. You are going to absolutely need it today. Now, before we dive in, I promise I’m gonna keep it short and sweet, but I wanna take just three minutes to explain my background, who the heck I am and how I got here. I am Brit Seva and I’m the CEO of the industry’s largest and fastest growing business coaching program, Thrivers Society. I’m also the host of the industry’s largest podcast with over 3 million downloads to date and the founder of the industry’s largest business base coaching program, which we are gonna talk about later today. If you’re not hanging with me yet, I would love to spend time with you every single week at any of these locations
My backstory, I am licensed in the state of California as a cosmetologist. I have been licensed since 2007. This is me and my beautiful class right here.I had enrolled in this program at my low community college thinking. I was setting myself up to create my own schedule. I thought I’d be running my own business really in control of my life while working creatively and making an incredible income. My own stylist at the time was earning more than her husband who worked at Google. And I thought, yeah, this is exactly what I’m looking for. I wanna do this.
So I graduated from this program and started working as an assistant at a beautiful blended salon. We were commissioned in booth rental. And within my first two weeks, I realized that what I thought I was signing up for in this industry was a far cry from the reality that I had received. I saw the stylists who were in the salon, driving nice cars, and homeowners. They seemed to be super wealthy, but they were working at least five days a week.
Most of them worked nights, weekends, double booked. They were suffering from physical, psychological, and emotional breakdowns. Like they were in troubled marriages. And I couldn’t find anybody with an example of what I really wanted. Anybody who was working part-time was making. And I worked at my corporate job and it just didn’t make sense for me to stay in the industry. If this was what I was heading into, I didn’t wanna work nights and weekends. I couldn’t afford to just make a baseline income. I was a teen mom. That’s part of why I got into the industry. And I had a beautiful daughter at home counting on me. I had already missed a ton of her life and I just didn’t want to miss out anymore. So I decided I couldn’t just fall into the system that was clearly broken and do what everybody else was doing.
So I started doing things really differently. I marketed myself differently and I took care of my clients really, really differently. And then in 2009, the owner of my salon decided to go absentee. He actually opened up a 20,000 square foot beauty school and promoted me to the position of salon director, where I was truly honored to lead the daily operations, the budgeting, the hiring, the terminations, the training and everything in between for a 25 person team to date. I have hired over 100 stylists in my time as a salon leader, one oh oh, and fired over 70, because that’s what it takes.
I famously had a drawer full of resumes from stylists begging to work for us. And I know what it takes to run a profitable salon. My salon was producing 2.8 million in revenue and other salon owners in the area took notice of what I was up to and began reaching out to me, asking if I offered consulting.
So this coaching career I have today started very organically out in 2012 here in the San Francisco bay area. By 2014, I was leading the salon team full time while consulting 20 hours a week. And I had a waitlist that went on for days. So I had to figure out a way to share my method beyond one to one. There wasn’t enough of me.
So in 2015, I actually launched these industries’ first ever digital course. It was called Thrivers Society. And it was the program that I needed. When I joined the industry, I had truly made it for the 21 year old Britt who was desperate for something like this. This was the program that would’ve allowed me to be present with my daughter while building abundant income. It was the method that I had shared with dozens of stylists. And I knew it changed lives for decades.
This industry has lacked strategic, practical, solid business coaching. And I am so proud to be at the forefront of revolutionizing the industry from the ground up to date, I have coached over 15,000 beauty professionals through Thrivers and those stylists are now earning more, working, less scaling into the six figures, saving for retirement buying homes, paying off homes, buying second homes. And best of all, they’re just enjoying life in a bigger, better way. And I’m gonna be sharing some of those success stories with you today.
So I wanna take a minute right here and re engage with you as a reminder, this is not a masterclass. It’s a workshop. You do work. I simply facilitate. So I wanna get a sense of this room so I can tailor this class to be best for you. If you need to increase your income. And that’s part of why you’re here.
Can I see a “yes” in the chat? How many of you are looking to make more money this year? Good, good. And I’m gonna call out those who did not type. Yes, you are not respecting your business enough. If your goal is not to make more money this year, you realize the economy will leave you behind, right? So this should be a yes from everybody. And I’m glad to see that it is for most. That’s beautiful.
How many of you need to get more organized this year? I’m raising my hand loudly and typing. Yes. Organization is the key to success. For those of you who feel overwhelmed, burnt out, lost like you can’t catch air. You can’t get ahead. You need organization. That’s the piece that’s missing for you. Do you need to retain a strong, dedicated team? Where are my leaders at? Go ahead and type “yes”.
If you feel like the game has changed and it’s never been than it is right now to retain a strong, dedicated team. If you’re an owner, you better type “yes”, because the game changed big. And what it takes to retain a strong dedicated team is not even what it was in 2021. It’s different. Now the game has changed. And let me see those “yeses”. If you need more freedom in your schedule and life, while still growing your income for me, it’s only cool to scale your schedule back.
If you still keep making more money, if we cut your schedule and you lose income, I did you dirty. The only way to gain true freedom is to work less and earn more. And that’s what I wanna share in this room today. I feel like you are aligned. You are feeling it and I’m excited to have you here.
Cause here’s what I know for sure. You already have a full plate. Nobody in this room is slacking. Money is tight and you don’t wanna be part of the industry statistics. You don’t wanna be that typical starving or struggling artist persona that everybody likes to think all stylists and salon owners fall into, and you also don’t wanna work your life away to sustain an income. You pour your heart and freaking soul into this profession and we’re waiting for this big payday. And then for those of you, when the payday comes, you’re working so dang hard to sustain it. It doesn’t even seem worth it to keep the grind. Can I get an amen?
So then you end up in a rock in a hard place. The industry has changed crazy fast in the last 18 months. And you need to educate yourself on what’s shifted and what’s actually working today to elevate your business, but you can’t afford to take time or money away from your life as it stands.
And I get that. But I also know you don’t wanna be a statistic. You don’t want to have anybody to say, “I told you this wasn’t gonna work out”. You don’t want those who are against you. The leader, who did you wrong? The parent who didn’t support you to be right in the end, over the past decade, I’ve figured out how to not just show stylists and salons, how to grow but scale. And I’m gonna share a lot of that with you today as much as I can, because I don’t want you to be a stat either, but I do have to warn you that part of what I’m gonna share is gonna sound like the polar opposite of what you’ve been taught to believe.
There’s some really nasty stuff going on in the industry right now. And I’m gonna uncover a lot of it. Now we’ve been told for years that if you work long enough hours for enough years and take enough classes and choose to have a solid specialty in line with the right brand, success will come while I have a harsh truth for you.
Some of you have already learned this truth. Your work ethic is not gonna save you on this one. I know you’re growth oriented. I know you’re dedicated. I know you can hustle. That’s why you’re here. The problem is you’re holding on for life, waiting for your efforts to pay off and waiting for the next big break. You’re trying this and that. And the other thing, taking advice from every influencer and every brand, you can find hoping that one of their strategies is the one who changes the future of your business, right?
So the great news is your success is inevitable, but only if you choose to show up and take what is rightfully yours, most of you got into this industry to change lives. I hope all of you did, to be honest. So we wanted to make people feel beautiful, confident, like they’re their best version of themselves, but the irony is you wanted that for yourself too.
And at some point you started self-sacrificing, you can’t pour from empty. And the point of this workshop is to help you cut out the noise and get down to an actual plan for success. So I have three goals for this workshop. For those of you who aren’t yet taking that smooth hundred K home yet, I wanna help you to create a plan to 2X to 3X lifestyle. For those of you who are taking home over a $100K net, I wanna show you the path to scaling your schedule back while working towards five to 10X revenue and creating a true freedom lifestyle.
How many of you would like the idea of making over two hundred grand as a stylist? Cuz if you would, I’m gonna show you a stylist who does it today and exactly how they did it. So hang tight and for the salon owners in the room, I wanna share with you how to own the salon that stylists and other salon owners admire so that you can step up as a true leader.
Now, for those of you who commit and go all in on this experience, your takeaways are gonna be a full existing career analysis and assessment. We’re gonna determine your freedom numbers, and we’re gonna do some fun stuff with that, today. We’re gonna determine your career potential, which is going to blow your mind. This is what you’re gonna be thinking about for the next week.
I’m gonna share with you the three inevitable success secrets that only 1% of the industry is implementing today. And you’ll create your career ascension plan customized to fit your business goals throughout this week ahead. Now at the end of this workshop, I am gonna make you an offer. I like to just cut out the awkwardness in the room and tell you, yes, I am gonna make you an offer at the end. It is gonna give you everything you need to scale your schedule back, get organized and 2X to 10X your lifestyle in months, not decades.
Over the course of almost 10 years of coaching have developed three super simple methodologies to cut out the hope and pray. So you can just get to the freaking finish line. The offer I’m gonna make includes over ten grand in education and support, but is offered at a rate that even if you’re only making $10,000 a year, you’re gonna be able to afford it. So this is gonna be accessible to everybody. And this is likely gonna be the first business investment that actually pays for itself while producing a landslide victory for you, your life and your freaking business. So let’s dive in. It’s time for you to do the work.
We are gonna start with a career analysis and assessment and whenever we wanna start to do our income or make a major shift, we have to start here. We have to start by reflecting on where your business is today.
You can’t create a plan to increase your income or your lifestyle. If we don’t know the hard facts about where we stand right now. So I want you to pull out your PDF and open up to page four, if you will. And what you’ll see is the top looks a whole lot like this. It says section one, career analysis and assessment at the top, and then I’m asking two questions.
So let’s start with the first one. How do you currently work? You already self-identified this for me at the top of class, are you a commission stylist, a studio suite owner. Now here’s where it gets tricky. If you’re a salon owner and you still take clients -two jobs. So I want you to write here: salon owner and booth renter, right salon owner, and bridal stylist. If you do more than just lead your team, we need to make a note of it here.
If you are a booth renter, and you’re also an educator make note, how do you currently work? This is an indicator of what our revenue sources currently are. Next, we want to start defining what our dream career would look like. So I want you to be as clear as possible as to what work looks like for you today and all the facets of how you currently generate business, but then where you want it to be, what would your schedule look like? How much money would you be making(and be greedy here)? Don’t cheat out, like be honest here.
So usually we say things like, uh, I like being busy. I enjoy working 40 hours a week. I don’t mind working nights and weekends. I’ve acclimated my family’s fine with it. There is a radical difference with your family, adapting to a terrible schedule and you actually working a dream jog.
And I wanna remind you that it doesn’t matter where your paycheck comes from. I think there’s this misconception that if you were commission, you would make more money as a booth renter. I know a lot of people who went from commission to booth rent and lost significant revenue. It’s not always the case that happens all the time, right? To me, success is not defined by who cuts your paycheck or where the money comes from. It’s about what we do with the opportunities that we have.
And I want you to take a second here and get greedy and really think about what would make you feel like your career is truly epic. Okay? Then we shift forward and we analyze what was your gross and net income in 2021. So gross is your total service dollars, your total retail dollars, your bridal business revenue booth rent collected.
Any money that comes in net is what hits your personal bank account for the stylist. And I’m waiting for it. I’m waiting for somebody to come in the chat and be like, Ooh, I don’t have those numbers yet. My friends, it’s February right now and we are six weeks into 2022. If we don’t know the gross and net earnings of 2021, we have massive problems. And on the flip side of that massive problem, Brittany, I see you and Brittany, I’m giving you a virtual high five for raise.
In your hand, you are losing at least $10,000 a year at minimum, likely more. If you don’t know these two numbers by now, it’s ironic because we get into this industry to make money. And then we are terrible about tracking our money. It’s so wild to me. So we need to get really, really serious about it.
Next, let’s have some fun here, again. Be greedy. What net or gross income would allow you to live your ideal lifestyle? Like dream about it. When you joined this industry, how much did you want to make? And what income level would allow you to radically change your career? Live in a dream home, drive a dream car, dress in a way that makes you feel incredible, allows you to take care of your family in a way that makes you feel proud. What did you dream was possible?
Stephanie says 200 grand. Stephanie props to you. I love that. So for everybody in the room, is it 80 K hundred K 250? Like Tracy says, what is it to be honest, you call it like it is flat. And lastly, how long do you think it will take to make that number happen? How long? Three months, nine months, two years.
A decade. Never. It’s fully impossible. I see question marks. Yes. Somebody’s looking to retire their husband. Yes. This is what I wanna see. Lindsay says I can make this happen, but it’s gonna take me five years. Lindsay. If I showed you how to make that happen in two, would you be excited about it? Anybody who’s putting in more than two years, you’re in the right place because you’re likely short changing yourself and we’re gonna dream, but good. I want you to write those numbers down. Okay, great.
Then we shift to the next page and this is where we get real about what your business will become and where your business efforts and techniques currently land today. So start by writing down what your dream schedule would be and how long you think it would be for you to achieve it. So some of you in this room might be totally into homeschooling after what we experienced in 2020.
So maybe you only wanna work nights and weekends. I was just meeting with another mom yesterday who said that was her goal. And I was like, sweet. Let’s do it. Let’s find a way for you to make a hundred grand only working nine hours in the evenings during the week and one Saturday and one Sunday. And we plotted out a plan to do it. So if that’s what you want, that’s great. If you wanna only work Tuesday through Friday from ten to four. Awesome.
What is your ideal schedule? Not what do you think you need to do? What is your ideal schedule then? How long do you think it will take to achieve that schedule based on your current trajectory? So some of you were saying, I wanna make 250 grand, but it’s gonna take five years. Okay. So when do you think you’ll be able to work that dream schedule?
Are we convincing ourselves? Well, once I make the two hundred grand, then I’ll scale my schedule back. Or would it be pretty awesome to scale your schedule back and keep increasing your income? That’s up to you, but I want you to say, how long do you think it would take based on your current efforts for you to get where you want to be?
Okay. Lastly, what growth style appeals to you the most? And this, I want some feedback on, go ahead and circle. The one that appeals to you. The most one slow and overtime. Do you prefer to grow slow and overtime? Two: consistent, tangible long-term growth. Or three: I need money fast, even if it’s not sustainable and it’s unpredictable.
Let me take a poll. So most of you are saying two. I will tell you there was one wrong answer here. And I coached a hybrid of the two others.
So the wrong answer is obviously slow and over time. Why? Because the economy doesn’t give us that grace, we’re not allowed that the economy is growing faster than ever before. And it’s not just this year. When we look at the last decade, there is an explosion happening. If you’re choosing to grow slowly and over time, the industry and the will pass you by, that’s not going to work. So we need to be at two and three.
What I love about the techniques I share is I can teach you three. Three is easy. Fast money is so easy. And a, a lot of times you’ve, you’ve learned from other educators who teach you how to make fast money. The problem with fast money is it’s like a shot of adrenaline. It’s a rush, but you can’t sustain it. So you do silly things like you buy expensive cars or you rent a studio suite that you can’t afford, but you didn’t have number two, the consistent, tangible long term growth to sustain it.
So I can teach you how to make fast money. That is very easy. Any rookie level educator can teach you fast money. I can teach you fast and then show you the sustainability to hang tight. So that’s why I wanna share with you today.
Now I wanna get into the last part of this section, and then I’m gonna share with you something fun. That’s gonna blow your mind. How long have you been feeling like something is off in your business because if you thought everything was flawless, first of all, you’d be naive. Definitely because my business isn’t flawless. Yours is neither. Something is off for all of us. I respect that deeply. And second, you wouldn’t be here today. You wouldn’t have signed up for class and given me time on your Sunday, if you felt everything was perfect.
So actually much respect to you because you are the elite 5% for already choosing to be here. You know, there’s a next level. So then I have to ask you, when do you wanna feel massive success? Like when do you wanna start feeling that tangible success, where you wake up and you pinch yourself and you’re like, holy crap, did I really make this happen now today? Beautiful. Because so many of us push off until tomorrow or someday. Someday is not a day on the calendar.
Now is the time our industry is growing at 19%. That is statistically faster than most. Every other industry in the United States today, competition is coming now is the time to seize the day, right? Okay. Sit up a little straighter and tune in because what I’m gonna work you through right now is mind blowing. And this is an exercise I have never shared anywhere.
And I know that you’re gonna love it. So the average American will earn 2.7 million over the course of their lifetime. You’re gonna need to write this down in your workbook so you can write it down right now. If you want to. Now, if I were to hand you, if I was like, congratulations, thank you for coming to class today, I’m gonna give you 2.7 million. Oh my gosh, that’d be a landslide, victory. Spoiler alert: I’m not doing that, but it would be amazing, right?
But when you look at the cost of living for the average American needing at minimum 1 million to retire, even if we do that off investments, this is just not really gonna cut it. Right? 2.7 million over a career breaks down to about 50 grand annually, over 47 working years, which is the average career length for those who retire at 65, right?
For those who are able to. So when we look at that 2.7 mill amortized over our lifetime, it looks like this. We see that in our late teens and early twenties, we aren’t making much, right. Most of us were broke at that stage of life. But over the course of 15 to 20 years, the income will go up and up and up and up and up, but only for a time. And then you can see it. Flatlines in our minds. The longer we work in our career, the more money we will make. But statistically, that’s not how it works out.
Now, when we look at this diagram right here, we can see our industry plotted out against all other industries, but you can see for doctors, lawyers, construction, workers, engineers, everybody, all industries are represented here. There’s always the plateau. So even if we chose an industry where we are told that our income potential is low, which I believe is a big fat lie, you can see that plateau happens across all major professions.
Now you can see that it categorizes personal service. We’re way down here at the bottom at $28K average, meaning our annual lifetime or earnings potential in our industry is just $1.4 million. But none of these graphs have to be your reality at all. You don’t have to be a part of these dismal stats. You can choose a different path like tie.
So Tai says, when I started Thrivers, I was making 25 grand back in 2015, fast forward to today, I closed 2021 at $139K in 2022. I’m working four days a week, only 30 hours a week. And my goal is to crush $200,000. So Tai met me 15 years into her career and she had hit the plateau right around $25K and completely transformed her business and is now a proud six figure earner. She completely changed the potential of her future and her lifetime career earning.
So when we take a look at what that looks like on our graph, you can see that time. Now no longer follows the statistics at all, nor does her growth mimic the growth of the average American today. She is breaking the mold. She did average for the first 15 years of her career. While she stalled out at that $25K income, she joined Thrivers, and you can see she has a sharp and severe upward climb and has completely rewritten what was set to be her financial destiny.
So with these changes, Tai’s projected career earnings went from about $1.6 million to a $4.6 to $7 million. That is massive, massive growth. And she’s not the only one. This is Lori beautiful. Lori Lori says I joined Thrivers in the spring of 2018 and was the typical $20,000 a year stylist that Brit talks about now I’m bringing home almost 10 grand more a year.
And my average tip tripled my top month and 2020 will produce $2,200 more than my top month in 2018. I close out 2021 at just over thirty five grand. And I’m looking to make fifty grand by 2022 and be a six figure thriver by 2024. So when we look at Lori’s chart, you can see it’s similar to Tai. She had that typical slope and growth followed by a long period of flat line. She joined Thrivers and her income potential went from $1.5 million to $3.5 to $4 million. So the question becomes, why does that chart? I showed you even exist.
Why are all salon professionals growing this way? Why isn’t our industry? The one where people are saying, well, most industries flat line, but beauty professionals do it differently. Why isn’t that? The narrative, the harsh truth is that most entrepreneurs want you to do well. Just not as well as them.
And that isn’t the truth just for our industry. It’s the truth. In general, if you listen to any other business coach, they’ll tell you the same thing. We can say beautiful things like community over competition. But at the end of the day, there’s over 1 million beauty professionals working in the us right now.
And the pressure to stand out is massive education in our industry today follows what is known amongst other business coaches as 80/20 rule. I don’t know if you’ve heard this 80-20 rule, but I’m gonna reveal it to you right now. Most industry educators share with you 80% of their strategies so that you can do well, but save their best 20% for themselves.
Because again, they want you to do well, just not better than they are. And it does not mean it’s called survival. And it’s what our industry is based on.
And it’s so unfortunate. But until we make a shift and change the narrative, nothing is going to change because there’s this fear amongst educators, that if they give away all the goods, you might just surpass their success. And that’s too risky. There’s a mold T of other lies and half truths floating around as well designed to keep you playing small. So while others in this industry are empowered to sustain their massive success without worrying about you growing and becoming a threat, they keep that 20%.
The reason I’m able to show up differently is I’m no longer behind the chair. You’re not my competition. We’re playing in a totally different arena. I, I only succeed if you succeed. And this is why my programs have been so successful and effective. I share that remaining 20% that nobody else is willing to talk about. And this is what changes, everything.
Standard beauty industry education today is failing us when you scroll social or in other paid programs, either it’s scattered concepts, almost like bandaids for your business, like cool ideas, but the dots never really connect. So you don’t see that rapid fire growth. You don’t get that chart spike. We’re also seeing a massive trend now where educators are trying to convince beauty professionals that if they change how they charge their guests or pay their stylists income, it will sky rocket. Have you seen that? Where it’s like, oh, the reason why you’re not making two hundred grand is the way that you’re charging your clients is wrong.
That doesn’t even logically make sense. Think about that for a second. Do you think just changing the way you charge your guests or shifting your booth rent or commission structure will increase your income by 40% or more next year, that is naive in no other business. Would that be the way? So why would ours be any different? Lastly, most business coaching for our industry today is based on what other stylists and salon owners have experienced themselves. And I totally get that because for decades that’s all we had. But tell me this. Why are we still trying to learn from our previous mistakes in this industry?
Any good business coach will tell you that you shouldn’t ever seek out education from somebody three steps ahead of you. You want to learn from the person 30 steps ahead so they can bring you up to their level as quickly as possible. What we wanna respect, the income that doctors and lawyers and fortune 500 companies get. We wanna be seen as true professionals.
So we have to shift the way we learn and the way we show up, if we’re ever going to get to that place. And that’s a massive break in our system, and this is exactly why I’ve spent the last 10 years studying major marketing. I don’t go to the beauty shows. I go to major fortune 500 conferences, and I wanna learn from multimillion dollar businesses that are doing deep seven figure revenue. So I can bring those strategies back to y’all.
So if you’re wondering how Thrivers see that sharp increase, it’s because they’re learning the things that nobody else is talking about right now. This leads right into success. Strategy. Number one, I want you to choose a catalyst for change. This is one of the three strategies that not only true wealthy stylists are following, but the stylists who are coming in from beauty college now are already choosing to double down on. They are growing at a faster rate than ever.
And now is the time for you to find your catalyst for changing small incremental shifts in your business. Aren’t gonna change a random workshop here, and there is not gonna make a dent in your rev and your lifestyle. If you want a sharp increase, like I shared with you while working less, you need that massive catalyst for change in order to see it.
So if you haven’t experienced a catalyst for change that skyrocketed your revenue while scaling your schedule back, like Ty says, she’s seeing it’s time to find a catalyst, right? Which leads us into section two of today’s career mapping. So now let’s work on growth trajectory, planning. Your business will not be able to bust through the old limitations and hit the multimillion dollars in career potential earnings, unless we plan for it. So I wanna go ahead and start to make that plan.
So we’re gonna start right here by owning the fact that to survive businesses must grow by two to 4% a year. That’s survival, your profit margin and take home pay won’t increase. In fact, it will likely decrease at that level, right? And with the cost of goods going up, you’d actually be seeing less and less and less income year over year, even if your income goes up.
So let me share exactly why if you made 50 grand in services in 2021 and then do $52,000 in services in 2022, that’s 4% growth. However, you’re actually losing money year over year. Now the average sustainable business today grows by 15%, meaning that if you made $50K in 2021 in 2022, you’d make $57,000. That’s a 15% increase. And that might feel pretty incredible, right? An extra seven grand a year.
Doesn’t feel that way. But unfortunately it’s not enough to shift your potential career earnings at all. And your lifetime earnings would likely look like this graph right here. Again, we know at this point, the cost of business has gone up. So if you’re not seeing the sharp increases like the tide did, or Lori did, you’re never financially getting ahead of you, this isn’t dying yet, but you’re kind of running in place. Does anybody feel like that?
Like you’re running in place, go ahead and type yes. Into the chat. If you feel like the stagnation is hit. Yes. Rainy. Yes. Megan. Debbie. Yes. Yes. And I get it. So the goal is to break through that 15% that is running in place so we can grow it 20 to 40% or more. And that’s where we stay. Start to see that sharp increase in your potential earnings and your current take home. So for those of you who are wondering if my coaching for Thrivers only works for those who are earning 20 to 40 grand a year, I wanna take you into my DMs for a second. So this combo happened right here earlier this year. This is from a stylist I’ve been coaching for just over three years and you can see, hear what she’s sharing with me. So when we met in 2018, she was doing forty-six grand in annual service sales and three grand in retail.
By 2019, she had grown to 178 grand in services and 19 grand in retail. So essentially I showed her how to three X her income in just one year, but she didn’t stop there. She was able to work just six months in 20 and still take home six figures. And she exploded in 2021 to make almost 250 grand in services. 78 grand in retail for over 300 grand in gross revenue as a solo stylist.
This is not a salon owner, did it on her own. She did five extra business trips in three years, working with Thrivers. So you can see here, when we look at her graph, the sharp increase in her earnings and the trajectory she’s on. Now she’s on a path where her career potential earnings would be over 9 million or more. She found that catalyst for change and it shifted her entire life’s journey.
And she’s not the only one. This is from Leah. Leah was joining me on Instagram this morning. So Leah is a salon based outta Tampa. And Leah said to me, I’ve eagerly followed thriver since the day I discovered and I owe so much of my success in understanding of business and the industry to I was in the industry less than two years when I found Thrivers and was making thirty five grand a year. Thanks to your courses and programs.
In 2021, I was finally able to work my dream schedule of three days a week. I raised my prices twice in one year, honed in on my specialties, hired two assistants and was even able to pass on clients to my assistant. Who’s actually almost fully booked and killing it. We also grew from three to 11 team members and we had the best salon culture. I was able to make over six figures last year and it was my best year ever.
So when we look at Leah’s growth chart, you can see her upward trajectory is extremely strong and she isn’t showing any signs of a financial flat line at all. So she’s got a career earnings potential of 8 million or more depending on her goals and how much she wants to scale her clientele or sandbar. So she’s had a lot of options and I actually wanna show you her social media because what she does is so dreamy.
So Sandbar, like I said, is based outta Tampa. And you can see her following as strong. Her social content is completely on brand. It’s modern. It’s not a shock that she’s tripled her dream and has a strong culture cuz she set herself up in the team for massive success. So when you wonder, how is she attracting 11 incredible stylists who are crushing it, she’s doing everything right, which leads us into an inevitable success strategy.
Number two, I want you to choose aggressive, strategic growth objectives. Now one of our biggest barriers to success is we don’t realize our truest potential. So in turn you end up setting really low expectations for yourself and settling for mediocre when you’re meant to achieve greatness. So grab your workbook again, and we are going to start to calculate your career potential earnings and your remaining potential. This is a fun one.
So as I was sharing some of the stylists and salons I’ve coached in the past, you might be saying like, well, what does 4 million mean? Like where are you getting these figures from? Let’s figure out how to do that right now. So I’m gonna have you flip to page six at the top and you’ll see, it says section one, career analysis and assessment, just like I’m kind of showing up here on my screen.
And then there’s two boxes. One that says, what is the average lifetime earnings potential of those in the us. So I already shared that statistic with you, but in case you missed it, it’s sadly 2.7 million over the course of a lifetime or 57 grand a year, which doesn’t generally produce your fullest possible life. But go ahead and write that number in because that is where we’re at. Then we have a box that says, what is the average lifetime earnings potential in our industry.
And here’s where you’re gonna write the 1.4, 3 million cuz that’s the potential earnings in our industry on average, right? Just over 1 million so much less than what the economy as a whole is producing next. You’ll see a little bit lower still on page six. There’s a section midway down where I’m prompting you to calculate your remaining career earnings. This is how much money you currently stand to earn in your remaining career years.
And you’ll see here, I’ve pulled up the same calculation listed on that page, but I’ve filled in some of the blanks for you in your PDF. There are some blanks. Megan says, what if you wanna retire before 65? Megan, I most certainly do. So we’re gonna talk about that here in just a moment and some of you will be able to, and some of you will not now. So for the first calculation, I want you to use your net or your take home income.
So go ahead and write your 20, 21 net income or take home pay right after the word income. Okay. Then you’ll head to do some quick math to get the rest of the calculation. So the average person shoots for retirement is 65. Megan is saying I wanna retire before I’m 65. Okay. So Megan, that’s cool. So right in, instead of doing 65, Megan’s gonna put in at the age, she’d like to retire.
Now the harsh truth for some of you in this room is some of you won’t be able to retire at 65. Some of you will be trying to work into your seventies. So be realistic with yourself here. And I will want you to write in your 2021 net income and then the math of 65 or your projected retirement age minus your current age, we’re going to multiply those two. And it’s gonna give you your remaining income potential.
Rainy says, I don’t like this number at all. Rainy props to you. That’s why we do this because we’re running our business in the blinds. And if we don’t run these numbers, we don’t realize where we’re headed. So let’s say that in 2021, somebody in this room took home 80 grand a year and let’s say they wanna retire at 65 and they’re currently 40. So they have 25 working years left, right?
So the math is 80 grand times 25 working years left, meaning their remaining earnings potential is 2 million. So ideally with 25 years working left, we’d still be making at least three to 4 million, but this is okay. We could work with it and we could grow from it. Now somebody like Julie Turner, Julie, Julie was on Instagram with me earlier today. Julie’s projected to do half a million dollars this year.
So Julie, I know that you’re thriving and I know that you’re growing year over year, but I want you to run this math imagining you make half a million every year for the rest of your career and see where that lands you, because it will give you that freedom to say like, maybe it will, once I’m making that 500 OU I don’t need to make more. And then Julie, it empowers you to make really different life choices, right?
So even if you’re growing quickly, I want you to do this number as it stands today, because this is about learning where your career is at right now. Okay? So for some of you who are like, oof, I’m only standing to make, you know, $2.5 million left it’s okay, because maybe you’ve made a lot of revenue in previous years and you’ve recently scaled back your working hours, right? Maybe for some of you, that’s where we’re at.
So we’re gonna do the calculation and look at your projected lifetime earnings. So for this calculation, you’re gonna take the potential earnings calculation. We just did a moment ago. And we’ll add that to how much you’ve earned professionally to date, which is gonna give you your full career potential. Now for most of you, you’re gonna have to guesstimate this, right? But let’s say the same stylist, who’s now 40.
The person who I was using just a moment ago was the average stylist. So they’ve been in the industry 20 years and they’re still taking home less than six figures cuz they’re the average stylist. So let’s assume that their to date income was about 1.5 million, which is a pretty solid estimate. Based on this example, you’re gonna do your own estimate. Morgan says one mill for me. Perfect. That’s great.
So let’s plug in some roadmap. So let’s say Morgan said 1 million for me to date. Let’s say for example I was sharing career earnings potential to date 1.5. That’s how much they’ve earned thus far. We calculated that that person with their 25 working years left would make about another 2 million. So this person, this sample person’s career earnings potential is 3.5. No, that’s decent, right? Because it’s more than the 57,000 that the average American is making, it’s about 25% above the national average.
But here’s the shocker. We have to remember friends that CNBC reports, 89% of Americans won’t be financially prepared to retire and will continue to work in their seventies and beyond which is why our industry becomes next to impossible because of physical demand. I love you all. And I say this with love. You won’t be able to do hair in your seventies and eighties. Your body’s not gonna wanna do it. So if you won’t have the money to retire, it’s a good idea to start thinking now about what your second career might look like that your body could handle in your seventies and eighties.
My father-in-law’s in his late seventies and he still goes to work every day. So you have to think about what that would look like for you. And what’s truly possible. I don’t want you to be in that position. So instead prefer that we double down on the inevitable success strategy, number one, which is choosing the catalyst for change, but get real with yourself.
If you don’t want to. Right now, I know that you’re continuing to work on your calculation. So I’m gonna share with you Ty’s story while you do that mass. But I wanna show you how you can easily shift that current potential to radical growth like she did. Right? So assuming that Tai didn’t meet me. She never met me; she never joined Thrivers. This is what her career was on track to look like. Right.
She had been plateaued to 25 grand a year for a long time. And let’s assume she made that for about 40 years. I like to assume she did eight years closer to 18 grand a year because she had those struggle years at the top of her career. Right? And to be honest, most stylists and salon owners at the end of their career start to make less, their body starts to give out.
They don’t wanna work as much. So there’s the low income then the plateau, then the low income again. So based on what she was projected to be doing, and the truths about her business, her career income potential was just over 1.1 million. But if you’ll remember, Tai started working with Thrivers 11 years into her career, which was her catalyst for change.
So it breaks down her new career, potential earnings and shifts her numbers. So let’s say because she’s now on a different plan, she’s gonna spend six years in radical growth, 40% growth. It’s what she’s doing right now, 40% year over year, which is radical. That’s massive. And then let’s say after six years of growing massively, she says, all right, I’m gonna kind of pump the brakes a little bit and I’m gonna grow for four years at 20%. And then I’m gonna spend the last 14 years of my career, just sustaining.
She’s gonna choose to plateau, but she’s gonna choose to plateau high because she’s gonna continue scaling her schedule back while her income stays the same, right. That’s where it starts to get really powerful. So this is how she goes from that 1.1 million to 6.5 million in the course of her career. Right? So no matter what she’s earning, whether it be 4 million or 5 million or 6 million, it’s all radically more than the 1 million she was on track to achieve before she joined.
But how will you or Tai or Julie, right? How will anybody in this room know when it’s safe to say like, okay, I’m at a place where this is the income level that I’m super happy with. And I can just stain without that added pressure of earning more and more and more, we figure that out by creating a freedom number. And we’re gonna start that process here together right now.
Now, freedom numbers, go ahead and take a screenshot of this. You’re gonna want this one. It’s not in your PDF. Take a picture, write it down. You need this right. Freedom numbers are gonna vary for everybody in this room. So I wanted to make this workshop super customizable. And you’re gonna see, I have shared with you some benchmarks that are gonna fit you like a glove, no matter where you’re at in your business.
So if you’re currently earning less than 25 grand, your freedom growth percentage should be 70 to 150%. Write that down. If you are making less than 25 grand right now, your freedom growth percentage is 70 to 150 grand. If you’re earning 25 grand, a 50 grand take home pay right now, you should be growing by 40% or more year over year. If you’re earning 50 to 75 grand a year, you should be growing by 25% or more.
And at 100 grand or more earnings, you need to be seeing 15% or more growth. Now that’s just to keep up right now. I’ve shared with you examples of stylists growing by 200% or more today. So don’t cheat yourself and say, well, I could only do it by five. No you can’t. That’s not even true, right? Push yourself. And I wanna see you as close to these minimums as possible and what I wanna do right now, I wanna share with you a really fantastic tool that my Thrivers use to do these numbers and why I think it’s so amazing.
So let’s pull up the freedom calculator. I know I’ve got a lot of Thrivers in this room. I’m sure y’all love this one. So when you go to thriving stylist.com and you log in, one of the sections we have is called Britt’s favorite things.
And it’s a ton of tools and resources. This is not even Thriver’s. This is just bonus help. And one of the things we have are six, pretty epic calculators, and we’re gonna play with the freedom calculator today. So when I come to the freedom calculator, you can see, this is going to tell us what we need to do, how we need to grow in bite size pieces. So going back to that sample I was using before.
So let’s say that currently you are earning $40,000 a year as a stylist. Well, I just said you need to have 40% growth or more, right? So let’s say we put this person at 40% growth right now, they’re making 40 grand a year. I said, you need to be growing by at least 40%. And let’s say, this person currently works five days a week. Great. One year of freedom would be $56,000.
Meaning if you’re making 40 grand this year and you grow by 40% this year, by the end of 2022, you’ll make $56,000. I’ve shared examples of people who are doing this. So this is not impossible. This happens every day. So that’s what this would look like, but how do I make 16 grand more this year? That’s where we start to get overwhelmed. And that’s why this tool is epic.
So in order to do that, your monthly service dollars generated would need to be $4,600. And your daily service dollars generated would need to be 2 33. You could make $233 a day. Of course you could do that. Absolutely. And this seems a lot more tangible than 16 grand, right? And that’s why we, and that’s why we do it this way. Right? Okay. Then we break it down even further and we say, okay, great.
So if we’re looking at what this would look like three years out, if you sustain this 40% growth in three years, you’d be making over six figures right now, you’re making 40 grand in three years, you’d make over six figures, which is just at 4 57 a day in five years, you’d be crossing 200,000 right now. What if you’re part time? What if you’re like, well, that’s nice, but I only work three days a week. That’s cool. So the freedom number stays the same. The only thing that changes is you need to make more daily and it just trickles right down. There are stylists in this room making well over $2,000 a day, all of this is feasible and achievable. And that’s why I like this tool is we can start to look at this and really say, what do I need to do to get where I need to be?
And how do these numbers change? Now, if you choose more aggressive growth goals, like let’s say we come down here and you’re like, oh no, I wanna blow up. I wanna double my income this year. Awesome. I can give you a roadmap and a framework to do that as well. Right? So that’s why I like tools like this. Now, for those of you who don’t have access to this calculator, that’s okay.
You can still do numbers by hand for now, but in Thrivers we have tools like that so that I can make it absolutely as easy as possible. But for those of you who are doing it by hand, what I want you to do is use these as your benchmarks and try to stay as close to aggressive as you possibly can using this is what we’re gonna use as the framework. So then we start to ask how DOYs and salon owners get to a place where they can work less and sustain or grow their income.
I’d love to see in the chat, is there anybody who’s already feeling like they’re at a place where that’s happening, right? You’re increasing your income, but you’re actually able to work less and well. See, amazing examples. We have Amanda doing it, Katie doing it. Denise is doing it. Tracy’s oh, Tracy’s not doing it. Tracy. You can see Tova is doing it. We’re seeing these results, right?
So how much do we need to be earning with these freedom numbers in order to achieve this freedom lifestyle that others are sustaining right now? For those of you who are stylists, my guess is that you don’t want to work more than 30 hours a week by choice, right? Is there anybody who’s here? Who’s like, I love working full time. No, for most of us, we want to earn a great living, but we wanna have a nice, healthy balance while we do it.
Right? How many salon owners in this room feel like they’re at the salon 50 hours a week or more? And that they might as well pull up a cot under the front desk and just sleep there because there’s no balance of getting away. And even when you are at home with your friends or with your family, people are texting you, calling questions, you’re placing an order. Anybody still running appointments from their phone on the weekend, getting back to clients, somebody called somebody texts. Somebody needs something. Cuz be honest with yourself. Even if you’re not in the salon, more than 30 hours a week, most of you are working seven days a week and I wanna call it like it is. And then we have to start to ask ourselves, how are we ever gonna break that cycle? Right? I wanna show you how, and we’re gonna do that by introducing the salon professional’s career journey.
So this is the path that every single stylist or salon owner on the planet follows. And I want you to tune in cuz you’re gonna use the section to fill out page seven of your workbook. So there are three major stages of career growth for beauty professionals. We’ve got hopeful hustle and freedom. So I want you to do me a favor right now and type into the chat.
What stage you think you are in right now, based on the way you feel on a daily basis, just take a shot in the dark. Do you think you’re in the hopeful lifestyle, the hustle lifestyle or the freedom lifestyle? Yep. You assessing exactly properly. Most people in the industry are in hustle. Some are hopeful, fewer and freedom. So what you are assessing is exactly right? Right. So we all join the hopeful lifestyle when we’re in cosmetology school, right?
Nobody becomes a beauty professional thinking. It’s a dead end career and we’re gonna plateau. Like I showed you on this framework, right? Nobody thinks that we all think our potential is massive. And we dream of working part-time and earning well over six figures because we know thousands of stylists and salons do just that. And we imagine that’s gonna be us right now at some, we hit the natural progression from hopeful to hustle. As we fall into the struggle stage of our career.
Now for most of us within our first year working, we realized that this career is more physically, emotionally and mentally demanding than we thought was possible. And we struggle learning skills and marketing and trying to keep with this career all while servicing our clients, right? Some of you have struggled for decades, but some of you moved beyond the struggle zone and there is this natural progression beyond struggle to what I call sacrifice.
That’s the natural progression. You’re still in the hustle phases, but more money, more problems. And what you’re struggling with here is very different. Instead of feeling the pressure to build a clientele and to learn, you now have skills in clientele, but you’ve lost your life in the process. Like your life balance is in the trash can because you’ve given up everything to build this business. You’re making amazing money.
Some of you are making well over a hundred grand, but you’ve convinced yourself that you have to work long and hard and in your salon to sustain it. So burnout is either on the horizon or it’s arrived. It’s here already right now. Believe it or not. This is actually the best case scenario. Getting here at complete burnout is the best case scenario. Some take a potential detour, end up doing what we call sinking.
So I want you to kind of reflect in, ask yourself, where are you at? As I go through this? Because our sinking stylists are salon. Owners are still hustling and they have a clientele, but they’re not making the money they need to make. They are freaking ragged. They are at their last wit’s end and they can barely get by working so hard. You can’t call them lazy, but they never are.
Now ideally this person finds the catalyst for change and can get back on track to sacrificing. But how do we get outta the hustle phase altogether and find that freedom lifestyle. Now, the only way to do that is learning to scale, which by definition means working in a way that doesn’t take on additional energy or effort, but produces additional revenue. Right? So when we look at the benefits of a freedom lifestyle, this is where you get an abundance of free time and you aren’t working nights or weekends.
If you don’t want to any longer, you can become a successful industry educator without working seven days a week to juggle the moving pieces, you can choose to be an active salon owner who works primarily to mentor and guide your team without taking any clients any longer. If you want to, or you can choose to be an absentee owner. Like the owner that I worked for, did you know that that man took home over six figures in salary and he was in the salon six hours a month. That’s not a bad gig.
So when we look at what it actually looks like to scale, that’s when it starts to become possible. Now we are where we look, where you land on this chart today is going to help us to assess what your blockers are. So I wanna run through this quick analysis with you.
If you are currently taking home 50 grand a year or less and have gaps in your schedule, you are classified as struggling. Currently you have more time than money and you need to fill your gaps. So if this describes you, go ahead and write struggling after the line on page seven where it says, what stage of business are you currently in? Go ahead and write struggling right there. Okay. Props to Morgan, Jada, Felicia, struggling. I see you. I feel you, I’m proud of you. Good work today. Awesome. Okay.
Now for those of you who are earning less than 50 grand a year, but you’re slammed busy. Your stage of success is sinking. You don’t have money and you don’t have time. Nothing is in abundance and you feel like you’re sinking. So go ahead, write it into the line there. Aaliyah. I see you. I understand we’re gonna get to the flip side now for those of you earning 50 grand to 250 grand or more, and you’re essentially operating at max capacity to bring in that money.
Your stage of success falls into the sacrifice category. So go ahead and write in sacrifice. And then lastly, for those of you who are earning over a grant, take home while working 32 hours a week or less, you’re in the scaling stage of business. So you can go ahead and write that in. Now each of these stages comes with their own success blocker. So let’s identify your success blocker to note at the bottom of page seven, if you’re struggling as a stylist or salon owner, your challenge is your lack of direction.
So your success potential is massive, but unfortunately you’re not implementing the right strategies, right? You’ve unfortunately maybe bought into some of the lies that the industry teaches us and you’re following stuff, but it’s not what you need to boost your income and clients, how quickly it could happen slowly and over time. But that’s not gonna work with how fast your industry is growing today, right?
For those of you who noted that you are the sacrifice stylist, your success blocker is that you’re lacking structure. Now I know you have structure in your business, cuz if you didn’t, you wouldn’t even be here. The problem is you don’t have the correct structure. It’s not gonna get you to the next level. So you’re following some old dated or miss guided structure. And it’s holding you back from actually pushing forward to the next level, right?
Then for those of you who are sinking, your success blocker is that desperation dominates. You’re working so hard, but you’re scared to raise prices or change your schedule or actually infuse any structure needed to make your career more enjoyable and profitable. And that’s always gonna be the result of the lack mindset, which I can help you to break through. That’s something I love coaching on. And we can work on that.
Lastly, if you’re successful, age is scaling, it doesn’t mean you’re done yet. So for those of you who are scaling and for those of you who are sinking, who wanna scale or sacrifice, but wanna scale scaling stylist and salons, aren’t perfect. They’re still humans. And their success blocker is they need renewed inspiration. And if you talk to a stylist or salon owner who is scaling, they will say that they feel this.
Sarah says I’m a combo of sacrifice and scaling Sarah. That means your sacrifice. If you are not fully scaling yet, you’re either in or you’re out. You can’t ride the line on this one. Okay. So that’s okay. You’re on the cusp. I know you Sarah. So you’re on the cusp of scaling, but you’re not there quite yet. Okay? So often those who reach the point of scaling decide to add more to their plate.
Sarah, this might be the year. Those who are scaling decide to add more to their plate recklessly, which sends them back to sacrifice rather than creating more freedom and money simultaneously, you get more of that freedom and free time. And you’re like, oh, here’s six things I can take on. Nope. Now you’re sacrificing again. Oh, you lost it. You had it. And then you lost it. You saw the goodness. And then you went back to the overwhelm. This is a nasty little cycle that entrepreneurs Tiana. I see you.
We do this all the time. It is the fastest thing you can do to destroy your career. You need to get to scaling and then stop piling it on and learn what needs to happen to grow your income without losing your life in the process. Right? Which leads us into inevitable success strategy. Number three, we have to create a plan based on where we are today.
Not where we want to be. The fastest road to failure is by creating your business plan based on somebody else’s highlight reel. This is a quote I am obsessing over right now. When you look at what any other stylist or salon owner shows on Instagram or what you see them doing in their salon, you are making a reckless decision for your business. You cannot and should not try to implement the same techniques that a stylist or salon owner who is 10 steps ahead of you is implementing.
You are making massive judgments about what is or is not working in their business based on their social media or what you see when you walk by the salon and look through their windows. Their goals are not yours. You don’t know how much money they’re making, what they’re doing might not be working at all.
And yet you are revolutionizing your whole world based on what they may or may not be succeeding at. Here is a harsh truth. Some of the most influential stylists and salon owners on social media today who are extremely popular with hundreds of thousands of followers are not profitable. I coach some of them privately. You don’t want to be in that position. You don’t wanna just look fancy. You want to be incredibly successful. And that’s where I want you to be too.
So ins, we are going to wrap up this workshop today by identifying where you need to focus in the salon professionals, Ascension plan. I told you, this is the foundation and we’re gonna push forward from here. You came here wanting a clear cut plan. Yes, we’re gonna narrow in on that custom roadmap. We’re gonna be building this week. And I want you to remember, we’re gonna build based on where we are now.
Not where we want to be in five years now, for the vast majority of you, about 88% of the industry you’re syncing, scaling or sacrificing. So you’re still in stage one of the Ascension model. So stage one is to master the foundations. So even if you feel like you’ve built a solid foundation for success, this is where you need to be. So I want you to imagine something for a minute.
Imagine you came to this class and I was actually teaching you how to build a multimillion dollar custom dream home. And we were gonna leave this and build custom dream homes. Okay? So you’ve taken out a construction loan valued at 4 million. I mean, your life’s on the line with that loan, right? Four mill. But the total potential value of the home could be 7 million. If you sell it down the line, right?
Like if you build it right, but instead of building it right, you choose to build it fast. You cut corners. You skip ahead. Cuz you kind of got bored with that initial custom dream home. And you decide to start working on another house on the side, you buy a condo, you’re gonna start renting out to people instead of just focusing on the dream home you committed to making. So first of all, the home is never gonna have the value of close to 7 million.
And a lot of the 4 million you took out on a construction loan is gonna be a waste because the beautiful flooring and the incredible furnishings you put in there were built on rocky soil. No one wants to buy that. And the reason I share this is because so many salon professionals today are building beautiful homes on Rocky soil that are gonna crumble in five to 10 years.
And you’re gonna have wasted the millions of dollars you could have made. And the millions in profit, you could have earned because you decided to go fast. The foundation you should work on is your marketing, a retention funnel, which also includes finalizing the correct pricing. We look at marketing, we look at advanced branding enhancing salon experience.
If you are making 50 grand or less an annual income or 51K to 200 grand, but you’re working 35 hours a week or more, I promise you this is where you need to be. If you are a salon owner who still takes clients, my friend, this is where you are. I don’t care how much money you’re making. If you’re a salon owner who still takes clients, you are here, okay. Then we get into the ascension step. Number two, this is broken down into what I call the four phases of scaling Ascension Step.
Number two is very advanced, but it’s also the way that 6% of the industry is currently taking home 200,000 or 300,000 to more. So this is where we focus on things like brand positioning statements. We go into XFactor, zones of genius, strong policies, developing a methodology, implementing freedom structure. So for those of you who like boundaries policies, I love it. Aha. If you do that way too early in your career, you will completely screw yourself over.
So I’m all about putting that structure into place. Absolutely, but we need to do things in order and correctly. If we wanna build in scale, I don’t want you to fall back into a place of chaos, right? And I don’t want you to lose clients needlessly. We have to do this strategically to grow and right, no strong foundation and your multimillion dollar mansion won’t last a lifetime.
We don’t want that. So once we’ve done step one, we shift into step two and then we can start to really scale and earn more. While working less phase three is called lead and influence and you can lead and influence in several different ways. Currently I coach to lead and influence being amongst salon leaders. So is anybody in the room, a salon owner who is struggling to get their salon team active and engaged and driven and producing.
And it starts to feel like I’m trying to lead them to water, but I just can’t make them drink. Yes. So if you’re having a hard time hiring or attracting a solid staff, or maybe you’re an educator or an aspiring educator and you’ve done okay, but you’ve yet to break a hundred grand and educator revenue, anybody in the room in that place like you’re starting to educate, but the money not really coming in, I promise that there’s a break in your lead and your influence.
So here’s a light bulb moment for everybody in the room. You’re not leading. You are pulling right now. If people aren’t naturally falling into you, I promise you that you’re pulling a leader. If people willingly choose to follow. So if you aren’t ally attracting an abundance of the right people to your business, whatever that may be, you’re not a leader yet. You’re simply a person with a good idea. And nobody’s choosing to follow you because you likely haven’t mastered Ascension step one or Ascension step two.
So you weren’t quite ready to lead an influence yet. You got excited. I know you wanted to do it, but unfortunately you weren’t there just yet. Now for me right now in phase three, I’m coaching salon owners through leadership and influence. And I do that using this pyramid UC right here, which is my trademark and soon to be patented step leadership, profit pyramid, which includes the 10 steps you need to truly influence and lead a team of any kind to success, right?
So the question becomes, are you playing a big enough game right now? And are you focused in the right areas, right? Are you truly all in or are you convincing yourself that this is all too or the area you live in is too small. I saw that in the chat. Well, how do these numbers work? If, if I live in a small community, they just do, you’re limiting your beliefs.
And you’re convincing yourself that if you move across the country, this could be your reality. That’s not true. Anybody who’s buying into the lie that my salon owner is holding me back, or I would have to do all this, but I don’t have the money or the time. These are all lies. I’ve coached over 15,000 stylists and salons through these lies. But I know they still exist because I see them coming up in the chat today.
And I see them in my DMS week after week after week. So this is something that came up on the ads that I was running for this specific workshop, right? So this person said, I live in a small city and I’ve lived here for 15 years. A hundred grand would be a joke to even think about making that much. Nobody would come to the salon. If haircuts were $50, that’s not true. That’s a fat lie.
That’s this person’s limiting belief causing them to have a dead end career, which kills me on the inside. But it’s also the choice that she’s made, right? I’ve shown you examples in this class today of stylists who live in small communities who have completely changed their lives. But then what was amazing is you saw comments below the post of people that I’ve coached, cheering her on and saying, you can 100% do this.
I’ve done this. And you can too. Success is a mindset, friends. It’s up to you. If you choose to claim success as being rightfully yours. So how do you shift your current business in a way that will allow you to achieve your full career potential? Well, let me tell you first to skip these things, cuz these are all failed attempts at a catalyst for change. Don’t do this.
So don’t just jump in and raise your prices. That’s not gonna change your income level to any massive scale. I promise it won’t and a huge opponent of price increases, but that’s not the way that you make any of this thing come together, right? Marketing more is not gonna do it. Working more is not gonna do it. Cutting your schedule back and praying you don’t take an income hit is really not gonna do it. Don’t close your books.
That is the most dangerous thing you could ever do. You would never think about any other smart business model. Who’s like, Nope, nobody else could come in here. I’m not interested in that. That is incredibly dangerous. Double booking is a dying art. Have we all come to realize that double booking was wildly popular in the eighties, nineties, early two thousands and now client demand is actually demanding that it shift out. So I’m not saying that you can’t double book. I’m not saying that it’s the worst thing for your business because it’s not, but it also not the way to make six figures. There’s so many other ways to do it. And the idea that double booking is working smarter, not harder is such a lie because talking to anybody who works with an assistant, it is incredibly hard work and you can actually make that money without taking on that expensive assistant.
So why not just be smart about it? Right? And lastly, we can’t copy others hoping to achieve their level of success. You’re on your own path. So copying others is not gonna be the way, right? So if you wanna have success like Samantha does, who will pay off her mortgage in her thirties this year and is now looking at investing as her income skyrockets, you have to do what she did. Right?
I made 40 grand this year before joining Thrivers, I made 65 grand the following year, while, and during months of shutdowns during the pandemic and now I’m ready to make a hundred can 2021, Brita done such an amazing job of creating this big, beautiful culture for us to be a part of everyone wants to help be there for you, hold you accountable. And there’s no mean girl vibes, experiencing all growth for me and my business has been an incredible experience.
And of course, Thrivers Society Live was a dream, which we’ll talk about in just a minute. I know some of you were saying you love cash, lawless cash law. This is coming to Thrivers live this year. And so many other speakers. So we’ll talk about it, but I wanna take one final look and our inevitable success strategies. So number one, choose that catalyst for change. Number two, choose aggressive, strategic growth objectives. And number three, create a plan based on where you are. Not where you wanna be.
You at this point are one year away from changing the trajectory of your life and of your BI. And I want you to know, go ahead and type yes into the chat. If you are a mega driven professional who has decided to stop playing small, to stop hitting on the sidelines and is ready to actually take their career to the next level, by taking the bull by the horns and control.
Yes. Look at the amazing group. So the fastest way to do that without a doubt is the industry’s largest and most established business building membership. And that’s gonna be Thrivers Society. So Thrivers allows you to stop trying to build your own roadmap and like, guess it along the way, which I’m giving you help with in this workshop. But instead of doing that and you trying to connect the dots and put the pieces together, I’ll just hand you the roadmap up and show you exactly what you need to do to build your dream business. So if you’ve heard of Thrivers in the past, or I can see, we have some previous Thrivers in the room today coming back for around two. So Thrivers of the past are not Thrivers of the now or of the future. So you may or may not even know. We actually expanded the program 3X by 2021 because our student base had expanded so much and our members were now seeing massive results.
So we had to triplicate the program to give you three incredible methods to meet you, right where you’re at in your business. So we have thriving scaling and leadership methods ready and waiting for you. Now, no matter what you choose, you’re gonna get access to the proven, tested and mega impactful methodology designed not to just fill your head with information, but add, actually give you tactical advice. Right?
So first we have the Thriving Stylist Method. This is for anybody in the room who is taking clients or mentoring stylists who are taking home less than a hundred grand a year, taking home less than a hundred grand a year. The thriving stylist method is perfect for you. So if you’re a salon owner, you need to have a copy of this. If you’re attempting to make, manage any level of stylist to grow to success, this is gonna be for you also, if you’re currently a stylist making less than a hundred grand a year, thriving stylists for you.
Now Scaling Stylist Method is for any beauty professional, taking home over a hundred grand through this method where I dive deep into advanced techniques that bring you to the four phases of scaling so that you can work less and make more. It is thriving differently now than it was last year.
It’s the same as what we released in October of 2021. So if you were a member prior to October, 2021, this will blow your mind. Okay? Then we have the Thriving Leadership Method. This is for any salon owner or man, most salon owners do dual enroll themselves and their managers because you will want to be, have everybody cohesive on this together.
So if you want your salon to be the best of the best, you wanna be the kind of salon that others admire. This is the program that you’re gonna need for yourself. We do have a lot of people who are multi enrolled. So if there’s anything where you’re like, well, I want a little bit of this and a little bit of that. This is what we’re looking for. Right next, we have acknowledgement. So have you ever achieved a major business milestone and you kind of look around and you’re like, but does anybody care?
Does this matter? Is anybody into this? Or is it just me? Right? You may have even won some kind, an industry award. Like you posted an Instagram post and it got shared somewhere. Or you won an acknowledgement for posting a great photo or something like that. But it doesn’t really mean anything deep. Like some of the awards we get in other industries we’ve changed that and we’ve got you covered.
So in 2021, we introduced the X club, which is composed of those who have doubled or tripled their income since joining the program. And I wanna share with you some of those numbers, we have Katie, Brooke, Abigail, Melanie, Jamie, Lisa Samia, Caitlin, Heather, Heather’s in the room today, Carly Stacy, we got Angie, Paige, Christine, Robin, Amanda, I could go on and on. And on these incredible souls, our stylists salon owners, they’ve opened salons since joining and many have become educators.
You might recognize some of these beautiful faces, right? Then we’ve got our community, which yes, we do have the industry’s largest and best Facebook groups, but we really took it to the next level. And we introduced our monthly meetups. So every single month you can get access to a free in depth workshop on a topic that has been requested by our members.
And we bring in guest experts to share their brilliance. This is totally free. It’s no additional cost to you. It’s the first Monday of every month you can attend in person virtually or skip it all together. It’s for free. So it’s really truly yours. We had 25 salons host meetups across the country, just this month and a few thousand other stylists have been joining virtually month to month. And we’d love to have you at our next meetup
coming up in March.
We have Ashlee Norman coming in. She’ll be speaking on Monday, March the seventh. So you could attend a monthly meetup locally. You could attend virtually. It’s a way to connect. It’s a way to learn. It’s a way to feel inspired and it’s pretty freaking incredible. Next we have coaching, which is included in Thrivers for free through our searchable Q&A bank filled with a few thousand questions I’ve answered in the past.
So for example, if you were to go in and search the word price increase, every time I’ve offered advice to somebody on price increases, you’ll see a dozen or so answers, right? If you were to search for maternity leave, you’ll see the ways I take maternity leave. If you were to look up bridal or extensions or educators or firing a client, I have answers for you for all of those things. You can also see all of my favorite tools get access to the calculators.
I shared it with you today. Book a private coaching call with me, which I only offer to members of my program. All of that is available within there. And lastly, you unlock access to tickets, to which is our members only event, Thrivers Live. Not a lot of explanation needed here, cuz I’ll go ahead and assume everybody in the room already knows this is the industry’s largest and most in demand business event for beauty professionals to date, it is the only event that speaks to the chief marketing officer, CEO, CFO, COO, and talent aspects of your business.
And this is where today’s top performing stylists come together to network and learn cutting edge business advice from those well beyond the reach of most brands and educators in our industry this year, Thrivers live is hosted in my own backyard here in Monterey, California. This is gonna be over from June 27th to the 29th.
And I will say that VIP and silver level in person virtual tickets are sold out. We do have standard ticket levels available at the virtual and in person seating options. But those are going really, really quickly as well. So this year’s speakers include Tabitha Coffey, Cash Lawless, Hal Elrod, author of Miracle Morning, AJ Vaden, who is the personal branding experts at summit today’s top influencers think like Lewis Howes, Don Miller, people like that.
We have Omar Johnson who is the former CMO of Beats By Dre and VP of marketing at Apple who is coming in to talk about the power of diversity and inclusion. We have Anthony O’Neil, who is a personal finance and investment expert candy Val, who is a multi eight figure CEO and business coach bestselling author and founder of it. Cosmetics, Jamie Kern, Lima plus my friends, Tony and Cory of industry are our virtual and in-person hosts.
You are not gonna wanna miss any of this. If you want the catalyst for change, this member’s only event is going to be the one for you. Now you’re welcome to look, go for it, but you will not find a more robust beauty based education business program anywhere today. You won’t like it, go ahead and go look for it.
I’m so confident that the value of this is over eleven grand and I told you at the top of this class, I’d be making you a high value offer. But what I didn’t tell you is you can unlock all of these opportunities for 69 or 89 bucks. Depending on what stage of your business is at plus I’m gonna give you all free access to my full course on dynamic pricing, which is a $299 value. You get that totally for free. So you know how to charge what to charge.
You get access to the freedom number calculator I shared with you. You’ll never struggle with pricing again. Now for those of you in the room who are super serious about building and growing your business as quickly as possible, you can upgrade to the annual memberships for thriving, scaling or leading for just 699, 899 or 1449 a year. So a few hundred bucks for $11,000 worth of educational opportunities.
To me, this is like a no-brainer investment. When you look at the hundreds of thousands of dollars, I’ve shown my students making as a result, this is easy. Plus as an annual member of any program, you unlock access to my full course, the financial reset, where we’re gonna talk about budgeting. We talk about color stalking. We talk about retirement planning, $399 value totally for free. I give you access to my super popular course, retail therapies, this one powerful.
And I had the privilege of speaking just last month at a brand sponsored event, filled with stylists who were selling 30 grand in retail a month. So for those of you who believe that retail is dead, you are just missing the mark. That was just four weeks ago. It’s still alive and well, your strategy just needs to change, right? Plus my highly in demand caption guide.
If anybody struggles with captions, let me just make this super easy for you. I’m gonna give you over a hundred copy and paste, full captions. These are not prompts at all. These captions are anywhere from about 500 to 2000 words, a piece. You copy them, you pace them. They’re done. They’re ready. Comes totally for free to all of our annual members, but don’t take it from me cuz I know of course I’m gonna sell my program and say that it’s amazing.
This is Christie. Christie says before I joined, I was afraid I would waste my money. And worried that Britt was just another business coach and the program wouldn’t be effective. The isn’t one on one coaching, but Britt’s support still comes in everywhere. I feel like she was always around when I needed her. The first year I left my salon and went out on my own. I lost about 30% of my income. The next year I joined Thrivers and gained it all right back. Even my accountant was surprised at my gross increase. I’m getting more referrals than ever before without adding any more hours to my schedule standing on my days.
I’d love to introduce you to Maxine. Maxine says Thrivers Society gave me the extra confidence and boost. I needed to be an effective leader in odor. My business was already thriving. I had some hesitations when I joined, I wondered would the content apply to me and my demographics?
How will this work? Am I outta my element here? So many questions. I’m so glad I jumped in head first. This journey’s amazing. I was already a six figure earner when I started working with Thrivers and I’ve nearly doubled my income since joining. My greatest accomplishments are raising my prices without apologies, building my wealth and saving for retirement and best of all, changing the narrative for my family. That’s my favorite bottom line.
If all you do is dabble in any of my programs and gain four new cuts and color with an average ticket of a hundred dollars. This program will have paid for itself in a year, but that’s not the typical result. Typically you’re gonna double or triple your income. If you double down just like Jodi did. Jodi says I was starting off in the industry. When I found Brit and a year with the help of Brit and Thrivers.
I grew my business to the point where I opened my suite and started a bridal team. I have tripled my income since becoming a thriver. There are so many accomplishments I could list since joining, but it all stems down to Britt and this community. My community is the best of the best that have helped me to find my confidence. So let’s call out the elephant in the room.
Let’s call it like we see it. Many of you are saying, I’m at max capacity. I don’t have time to do any of this right now. I got it. But it’s a lie. The lie that you’re maxed out is because you’re chasing the wrong strategies. You’re wasting your time. And I understand it’s what most of us do in the industry. But if you don’t invest time, then you’re gonna need to invest money. So if you’re not gonna choose how to learn what to pick and choose to build and grow your business.
My suggestion is then you spend about 10 grand a year on ads like paid ads and just hope that that works out. Or you need to settle for a low income level for life. And the choice is yours on that one. But why not just invest the time and change your life’s plan right now? The other thing we say is, yeah, I get all that, but I don’t wanna spend the money on the program. Like I’m just gonna keep listening to your podcasts and watching influencers on Instagram. And I’m sure at some point it’s gonna come together.
So first of all, I don’t share any thriver strategies on the podcast, so they’re not gonna come up. You’re not gonna get it there. I hope you still listen and follow. It’s super inspiring, but I’m not gonna share with you anything strategic there. Thrivers id radically different from joining another digital course or traveling to see a workshop or a training.
This is a business building system. It’s a methodology. I will show you step by step. How to do these things with strategy and support along the way. The truth is you can’t afford not to join because this is a program where our students share over and over, the membership pays for itself within their first few months of joining. Now I know it’s a lot of fluff. So if you don’t believe me or what I said, you can check out our success stories at thethrivingstylist.com slash success stories.
And you’ll see firsthand dozens of stories who have done it before you. But the reality is this is not the time to hit pause in your business. This is the reset button you’ve been waiting for. Stop wasting time, start gaining control. So when you’re ready to stop, just hoping your business changes and you’re ready to take control of it.
We cannot wait to welcome you to Thrivers society. It will truly be my pleasure to welcome you. I hope for some of you, I get to give you real life hugs at Thrivers Live this year. But for those of you who I just need to get to connect with in the DMS and celebrate the success, I’m still here for that. For those of you who continue to message me, telling me how the program has changed your business, please know it’s something I never get tired of.
Your words mean so much to me. And I’m honored to be able to impact the industry in this way and to see what thrives has accomplished and will, will continue to do so. Today was just day one. We’re gonna get into the Q and a here and now, but today was just day one. And this was about the foundation.
So for most of you, you should be feeling a massive mindset shift of like, wow, I want to make an additional 9 million. I need to get a harness on this, that or the other thing in my business. I want to be sure that I’m not another, I wanna double down those inevitable success secrets. Maybe you were the person who was copying other people, hoping something came along. I get it. Cuz I used to do that too.
And it wasn’t until I stopped doing that, that my business exploded. It wasn’t until I learned the foundations that I broke through playing the same game as everybody else. Right. And I wanna teach all of those strategies and lessons as well. For me, I think one of the best parts of joining Thrivers is getting the community. I think the strategy I share is incredible, but I think that the journey through education in our industry can be really lonely and bring up the screen to share again as well.
I think it can be really lonely. And when you join our community and your, your side by side with who have walked this road and have come before you and have learned what it really looks like to change your business and to have that mindset shift of, oh my gosh, I live in a small community, but why can’t I make 90 grand a year? You can. But if you’re working with other stylists and salon owners who are like, you’re right, it’s impossible. We just struggle here.
And we mine our business and we don’t bother anybody. And we continue charging $30 a haircut. Are you gonna let others in your community dictate your future? You’re gonna let Wanda down the road, decide what your life is gonna look like because she, herself is scared because she doesn’t realize that the industry is a, not what it was in 1974.
For me, I don’t want Wanda telling me what my life is gonna look like. I wanna be in charge. Right? And that’s what today’s class was all about. So like I said, tomorrow, we’re gonna dive into creating the plan for those who are making less than $100k currently at 12 noon tomorrow, I’m gonna be sharing strategy.
We’re gonna pull up the roadmaps. We’re gonna fill them out together. If you are already making over a hundred grand, I’m gonna see you on Tuesday where we’re gonna make your roadmap. And then Wednesday’s for my leaders Thursday, Friday’s Q&A. So don’t forget that these things are coming up, but I wanna get into today’s Q&A as well because we have so much good stuff to talk about.
Okay. So I’m gonna pull up my phone so I can pull up the Q&A. Thank you to my team for setting me up for this.
You all are incredible. Let’s see. Oh my God. We have a lot. Okay. Let’s do it. So the question coming in from Jenny, Jenny says, is it crazy to want to do Monday office hours, Tuesday nine to five, Wednesday nine to six. And Friday’s nine to five and still have a wealthy life. No. Why would that be crazy? So what Jenny is saying is Monday office hours. So one of the things, Jenny, I’m gonna assume you’re a thriver. One of the things we talk about in society is the idea of having office hours.
So you work as a stylist or a salon owner, even salon owners, you’re the talent. When you’re the owner, you’re the talent. When you’re being a stylist, you’re being talented. The talent is the person who makes the wheels go round. So when we go to a restaurant, the talent is the waiters, the whole, the hostess, the chefs, the busers, that’s the talent.
Okay. Imagine how successful it would be. If I was like, we’re opening a restaurant, nobody’s in charge. Everybody calls the shots, the waiters dictate the prices and we’ll just see how it goes. The restaurant would flop, right? But that’s how most of us run our business as stylists and salon owners, right? We let ourselves as the talent call all the shots until you pull back and decide to be the true CEO and the marketing officer and the finance officer and the operations officer of your business. Your business will be playing small, right?
You can’t let the person, who’s the cashier at Target, decide what their marketing campaign is gonna be next month. That would be so reckless. That’s why massive companies have a board of directors. You are your own board of directors until you can afford to hire one out. Right? So when I talk about how my salon owner became an absentee, he was making 2.8 million from the salon.
He was drawing over a hundred grand, taking home for himself, working in the salon six hours a month and paying me. I was the board of directors and then we’d bring outside help as well. So he was the true CEO. So when Jenny’s asking about office hours, she’s saying the things that she does on her business beyond cutting, coloring, posting on Instagram, running to the beauty supply store, that’s working in your business. The things we do working on it would allow your income to go sh and that’s what you’re looking for. Right?
So Jenny, you can do Monday office hours. And then she’s saying basically work another 24 hours a week. Yes. There’s people in this room, in this chat right now who are working 24 hours a week and making well over six figures. So yes, that’s fully possible. Rainy says as a salon manager who gets a salary, how do we set ourselves up to grow by these percentages asking for a raise based on performance.
So Rainy. I was you and I am really proud to say, as somebody in this room, somebody in the chat right now worked with me at the salon. So they’ll know that this is true. I created my own salary completely. And it was based on performance. What was happening is as I would go in and do things, we would see radical shifts in our income, radical shifts in employee retention.
And even the fact that I fired more people than any leader who would come before me allowed us to make more revenue because my tolerance for nonsense was so low that it kept our culture very high. So because I was able to produce so much more income from the salon, I became invaluable. They were scared to lose me. So in being scared to lose me, they had to pay me more. So I can’t just say I’m working really hard.
I’d like to make more money working really hard doesn’t mean that you are earning a raise. If there’s no result of that work, it’s not gonna happen. So rainy. I was you. And what I would do is say, here’s my six month plan to change and grow the salon. I’m excited to implement this. This is what it looks like and never did I ever have to say, and once I do this, I’d like to make more money. Never did I ever. But when we’d sit down to look at the PNL every month and the money would go up, that’s the day, I’d say amazing. So I am coming in today and I’m excited to ask for an erase and never was. I turned down because I had become so invaluable. And that’s what you need to do as well. Right? Create invaluable in your business. And thriving leadership would be the way that you would do that.
I can show you step by step. Exactly what I did to be in that position, right? Marisa says, are these daily and monthly numbers, total sales before commission. So this is in regards to the freedom calculator, Marisa, it’s up to you. How do you wanna run the calculator? So everybody’s commission percentage is different. And actually, let me see if I can pull this up for you as well. Take on pay for commission styles. Okay. So let me show you this as well, Marisa.
So this is another calculator that’s included within thriver society. So Marisa, I don’t know how much you’re making right now, but let’s say that for your freedom number, you wanted to be taking home 10 grand a month. No, let’s make it fun. 12 grand a month. He wanted to take home as a commission stylist. And let’s say you work three days a week and let’s say your commission percentage is 45%.
I don’t know what it is in making this up. So you would need to do 31 grand in service dollars or $2,600 a day. So that as a commission list, you would take home 12 grand every single month. So when you’re working the freedom calculator, it’s up to you. Like you could do that math here as well and say like, okay, so if I need to be making 12 grand, let’s say you would need to be doing like 340 grand a year as a commission stylist in order to make that happen.
We said you were working four days a week. So this would be the breakdown of what it would look like within your share every single day. Right? And that’s why I have multiple calculators within the program. You can use them in conjunction with each other to customize it, to fit your business.
And that’s why I say it doesn’t matter where the money comes from. It matters what you’re doing with it. So you could run the calculator. However you want to. There’s lots of different ways to slice it, but sometimes you do have to use the calculators, like in, in collaboration with each other so that you get the numbers that you’re looking for. But I do have tools to make that possible.
Okay. Rebecca says, so if the goal is not to work behind the chair at all and, and run the salon, do I calculate this based on the profit I make off employees? Yes. If your goal is to become an absentee, it doesn’t just have to be the profit for employees, right? It can also be retail sales. You can become an education hub. There’s a lot of different ways that salon owners today make money.
But one of the ways to collect booth rent is through commissions. The, and I know you didn’t mean it this way, but I wanna correct it so that nobody in the room gets triggered. When you said making money off employees. I think that a really common misconception in the industry is that salon owners are in it to make money off their team. It is so wildly expensive to run a salon. If you’ve never done it, you can’t even imagine.
And so it’s not making money off of team members, it’s providing opportunity. But the challenge is that such a prevalent mindset in our industry is that that’s what stylists think. So when, when salons are like that, I can’t attract good staff, I can’t figure out why I can’t attract good staff. My question becomes, let me go back to this graphic for a second.
My question becomes like, are you running your salon in a way that looks like this? Like, do you have a business foundation? Is there a purpose and culture? Are there roles and responsibility, brand standards, are you training? And not that loosey goosey kind of training stuff. I’m talking about solid training, praise, trust, and loyalty.
A lot of you are doing this at like 30% and the 70% that’s not there is why people feel like my leaders are making money off of me. The reason why we in the salon had commission stylists still working commission 18 years into their career is cuz we did all this and no one else was doing it. We were unbeatable. You couldn’t go anywhere else and find it. So why are you leaving? You’re not, you’re staying, cuz it’s too good to go. And the cyclist didn’t feel like we were making money off of them.
They felt like we were providing an opportunity for them, which is exactly what was happening. And it’s that shift from the leader to say and listen, I know you’re not meaning this in a bad way, but I’m giving you a mindset shift of like, how do I provide more opportunity? Like provide the opportunity and the money will come. One of the dumbest things we can do in business is make any decision to make more money stupid.
You won’t make a profit. You’re looking for, instead we say, how do I make this a better opportunity? And that’s when the revenue comes in, right? So it’s just a little mindset shift there. And also salon owners, you can keep taking clients. It is okay. But I ask you to really think about the exit strategy. I saw a great quote the other day that said that one of the biggest failures in entrepreneurship is that when entrepreneurs run their business, like a pilot who doesn’t know how to land the plane, like you, you learn the mechanics of the airplane.
You take off in a beautiful private jet, but you never learned how to land your private jet. Jet’s gonna crash into a mountain side when you’re 60, because I gotta be honest with you. Salons are not highly sellable. It’s very difficult to sell a salon and make any kind of profit. Usually it happens at a loss. And so it’s like, what is the plan? You’re gonna keep doing hair until you’re 70.
And then just walk away from the whole thing. Or are you trying to create a sellable asset? Are you hoping to bring somebody up so that you can make a profit off it? I don’t know, but if you’re flying the plane without figuring out the landing, that’s really dangerous. So just make sure that you know exactly where you’re going. Jess says, what if I’m 80% booked each month making less than 50 grand, but still have play any of freedoms in life.
Perfect. So then you probably fall into the category of, I think I’m still gonna put you at sacrifice. I wasn’t gonna say scaling. So if you’re wondering, like what was she struggling between? It was either going to be sacrifice or struggling. And the reason I say that is you’re saying you work 32 to 36 hours a week. That’s what I classify as full time. So you’re working and I know people are like no 40 hours was full time.
40 hours was full time in 1996. Anything over like 32, 35 hours a week to me is full time. So you’re working full time. You’re booked out 80% each month, which there’s room to grow there. Right? And then you’re making less than 50 grand. There’s so much room for you to grow. Like there’s, there should be no reason why you’re not working more like 28 hours a week.
I feel good about making 70 grand, 80 grand a year. That’s when we’d start talking about a sweet spot. But I think you still have a lot of room to grow. Like I’m glad that you’re not working a schedule that makes you feel completely constricted. Cuz I can tell that’s not how you are, which is great. You’re more involved than the average stylist, but you still have so much room to grow.
Like I’d be curious to see, run your numbers for your career earnings potential, what’s remaining and what’s existing and see where that room to grow is cathartic. Cosmos. I love what you have to say, but all of it sounds only applicable to season stylists. I don’t know how well this will apply to myself with someone less than a year behind the chair. Oh, I showed you some examples of that.
Hold on. Let me go back to less than a year behind the chair. Oh well I just showed you an example of that actually. So this was Jodi. She joined me her first year in the industry. So Jo Jodi joined me out the gate. She had been following me in beauty school I think, and then joined me right away. So within one year she opened a suite and started a bridal team. If you’re new to the industry and you’re like, well that’s normal.
No, that’s not normal. There’s nothing normal about that. The fact that a new stylist opened a bridal suite now has a bridal team working for her, AKA working smarter, not harder and is tripling their income. That’s incredibly atypical. So if you look at the demographic of those in the program, it’s really across the board. We have some people who are just coming out of beauty school.
Some people who are in the first couple of years, some people who are extremely seasoned, some people who are looking to scale as we have a little bit of everything. If you’re looking to get smart and strategic about your business, this is for you. But the idea that it’s only for seasoned people doesn’t demonstrate the demographic of who we have in the program, Katie says, can you give us an idea of how we are increasing income without raising prices or working more hours? If we’re fully booked Katie, I’m actually gonna leave it to the room on that one.
Does anybody wanna share in the chat if you’re already in thriver society, like some of the things that you’ve been able to do that have helped you to raise your income without raising prices or working more hours because Katie, I think that’s a really great question because we’ve been conditioned to think that in this career, that’s why you ask that.
Cuz we’ve been told that that’s the only way to make more money. And I shared this in my podcast recently. Even if you increase your prices by $5 a service year over year, you’re gonna grow with that two to 4%. It’s nothing. So when we look at how we increase our income, we increase our demand for our services. We increase our brand positioning. I mean, I could show you, let me go back up to this one for a second. We put all these pieces into place that make that possible.
So especially when we get into scaling, when we’re determining your zone of genius and X factor, it completely changes the way you show up. It changes the guest experience. It changes the perception. It changes the social media strategy. It changes everything. We create brand positioning. We define a methodology. So even in defining a methodology, it changes how you position yourself to the world, how you work within every day.
It changes the entire salon experience, right? I’m seeing a lot of great comments come in the chat too. Oh, the margin for magic came up. Exactly. So through the program, I show you all of the little, I call ’em blind spots that exist within our industry and in our business that we think like, well, I’m doing everything I can do. I raise my prices. I work 40 hours a week. I double book myself. I hired the assistant. I’m gonna open a salon next. That is so not the clear cut path to success anymore. The industry has evolved. And I share with you exactly how to do it. Kate says, how do I take new clients when I’m fully booked out? Kate? I love that question. It’s one of my favorites. So here’s a reality. And maybe some of my Thrivers in the chat can double down on this for her.
If you are booked doubt and you can’t take new clients, you are losing tens of thousands of dollars a year, but you’re convinced that you’re amazing. You’re like boo, I’m booked out forever. You can’t get in to see me. I am pre booked for months. My income is secured. I am sitting pretty nothing to worry about everything to worry about. I can’t think of an example of a successful business that runs their model like that. That is an unsuccessful way.
Our industry does it, but it doesn’t work. Think about it. Take a trip back in time with me, anybody who was in the industry in 2016 to me like 20 14, 20 15, 20 16 was the years of the influencer. That’s when we saw, I, I love to use guy tag for an example, because I feel like he was one of the first industry like social influencers that blew up there are icons from the past.
But when we started looking at the influencer, he to me was like the first. But then there were several that followed what happened to a lot of those influencers. Do you remember some of the people that you obsessed with like five or six or seven years ago? Let me tell you what happened. Not much. They closed their books. They thought they’d made it. And now they are hustling hard, really hard.
Some of them have left the industry, but they went to the top to the bottom because they did silly things like closing their books and thinking that they had this beautiful demand and what they should do is cut it off. That doesn’t even make logical sense. If you are seeing a booming demand, you need to shift your structure to meet that demand. Not cut it off. As soon as you start turning people away, you are slowly killing your business.
And so we put structural pieces into play to ensure that that doesn’t happen, that your business can continue to grow. And you don’t become one of those sad sob stories where you made it to the top, the demand was there. And then you decided to close the door and say, I don’t like that any longer. I don’t want that to be your story. Right? So we changed the structure.
Overall, if you are so booked that you can’t take on a new business, I promise you’re losing money. I promise. And I promise it’s also softening your community reputation and your clients are scared to leave you and scared to send you referrals. And that will last for a time. But over time it will also dwindle. And you’ll be the person who comes to me in five years and says Brits, what’s your one-to-one coaching rate?” I’m desperate.
Cuz that’s who I mostly coach one-on-one with are the stylists who are in desperation that are paying me obscene amounts of money to try and save their business. And I don’t want you to be that person. That’s not where you wanna be. Right? You wanna be in a more strong and structured place. Being fully booked out is not financial security. Think about it. If you are fully booked out, go ahead and count all of the people on your books times the amount they’re gonna pay. That’s how much money you’ll make.
I promise you if you were taking new clients, you’d make 30% more than that. Sorry you would. So it’s a structural break. We think that it’s super sexy and like, yes, I’ve made it in 1991 that did mean you made it in 2022. It doesn’t, it’s actually really risky. And the new generation coming up behind you is gonna start swooping in on your clients.
How scary. Kate says what would be the benefit in preventing pre-booking. We talked about that a little bit. Scaling back pre-booking is something I don’t coach until scaling stylist method. So in thriving stylists, we still talk about pre-booking because you have gaps on your schedule. Your demand is not there yet. When we get to a scaling stylist, we start to create that freedom lifestyle.
So for those of you who are pre-booked out to the moon and back, what would you do if you received an invitation to attend a baby shower? That’s four weeks from today. It’s on a Saturday, of course at two in the afternoon, you’d either not go to the shower or you’d have to work on Sunday, like take the clients that were supposed to come on Saturday. You’ll work Sunday to take care of them. Cuz you have to, there’s no room to reschedule them onto.
So you’re hoses. So you’re missing out on life, but you’re like I’m securing them. You’re securely missing out on everything I guess. And then if you’re booked out for months and months and months and months, what happens if you get sick? Was anybody in this room? Fear during the big boom in the pandemic? Like I know that we’re still in it, but was anybody like, please I don’t wanna get COVID cuz I won’t have time to reschedule all my clients.
Like there was no part of you that I don’t wanna be sick. I don’t want it to affect my family. It was like, please, I won’t be able to reschedule all my guests. That is a terrible business model. And so when we do things like we pre-book out to the moon and back again, it’s so dated. Like I coached that strategy to my salon team in 2010, they were graded on how far out they were pre booked I would never today rate my team like that ever.
I wouldn’t actually give a dang how pre booked out. They were, I wanna know how they’re running their business, how they’re marketing, what their daily service totals are, how much new business that they’re bringing in every month. That to me is the lifeblood. I don’t care how pre booked out. You are. What’s your retention. How many new guests are we seeing are doing for marketing and how much money are you making? Cuz when you look at any smart business, that’s what they’re looking at. The rest doesn’t matter.
And if you’re not bringing in those pieces, Tracy says I would never prebook myself. I love money. That’s the mindset. But until you live it, it’s really hard to see. But I promise that is the modern way that the scaling stylist is growing their business. Okay? Carrie says, I’m in Thrivers and I wanna start specializing, but I’m not sure how to wean out the type of clients.
I don’t want to, you need scaling. You’re ready for scaling. When you’re ready to start weaning clients out and have the room for the clients you do want cuz you’re gonna define your methodology and I’ll walk you through that, Carrie. But we can’t define that method until we’ve uncovered your zone of genius and X factors, which there’s three elements to the X factors. We’ll talk about those a little bit more in class on Tuesday, but we can’t do the method until we’ve defined that.
So that’s where we would go. Alia says, if I’m booked out, how do I take more clients without working more Alia? You join the thriving stylist method and I’ll show you exactly how to do it. And I know that it’s irritating. When I say that where you’re like, dang it. You said, come in and ask anything and you’ll show us how to do it.
Yes. But I also said, I don’t teach the bandaid BS education that exists throughout the industry where I give you 80%. But the 20% you have to figure out on your own, which is what you see in other places. Like when you say I booked out, how do I take more clients without working more? You could ask that on somebody else’s Instagram live or somewhere. And they’ll be like, here’s the three steps you’re gonna raise your prices.
You’re gonna change your policies. You can do all that. But what you really need is a structural change. Those are bandaids. You can’t just do it like this and put a couple pieces in place and change to 9 million in revenue. If it was that easy, I wouldn’t have a business. You need the strategy to make it happen. Right? Okay. Amber says, can you buy all of the methods to share within the salon?
Is there a different price for all? You can invest in all of the methods. Something like 40% of our members are multi invested in different memberships because they’re doing different things. You cannot share access to the program. So you would want to have a membership for everybody who wants to be a part of it.
If you have a larger salon and you want your entire team to join, if you email [email protected], my team can help you with that. We do have some options for that, but everybody would need their own login. It’s like, if anybody here showed up to Thrivers live and you’re like, we have one ticket, but there’s 10 of us that wouldn’t work. Right? So everybody would need to have their own membership. But we do have people, multi enrolled. Jenny says, is it a good idea to join both thriving and scaling?
Can you tell me when it’s a good idea to purchase thriving and scaling? Only if you’re a salon owner, otherwise you’re gonna pick one or the other. So let’s go back to this one. If you are making 40 grand a year or less an annual net income or you’re making over 50 grand a year, but you’re still working 35 hours a week or more. You need thriving. Also, if you are a salon owner, still taking clients, you need thriving.
Okay. So I hope that that clears that up a little bit. We have a little bit more Q and a, I wanna make sure I get to before my voice gives out and we lose our time. Jenny says I took home $77K and worked 25 hours. Perfect. So Jenny qualifies under scaling, right? Because she scaled her hours back. So, so much Bridget says, if I monthly, can I switch to the end yearly at any time?
Yes. But you can pay the full, yearly rate. So you can’t just do it like payment plans cuz there’s too many free bonuses. So you can switch to annual at any time and you can switch between programs at any time. But your monthly payments don’t go towards annual payments. It doesn’t work like that because you’ve already attended all the free monthly workshops. You’ve already done all that stuff. You’ve already taken advantage of everything for the months that you were there. Yes. You can shift into annual anytime. What was the price for thriving? $69 a month or $699 a year.
Okay. Sarah Jane says hybrid. Should I do this? Week’s workbook of career building roadmap along with thriving stylist method and why, or just focus on those two. If you are ready in any of the Thrivers programs, I would just do that. Can fill out these roadmaps.
If they’re helpful to your apps, especially if you’re in the wealthiest year yet instead of layering on the complexity, I’ve given you the simplified framework. So just stick with what you have. But if you like this and you’re like, well, I like to try it out. I wanna do it. Of course it’s not gonna harm you, but because of thriving stylist and scaling stylist and thriving leadership or so strategic, unless you’re here to feel inspired, which I’m here for, I would just focus on your modules and lessons rather than come for the inspiration.
But if you’re loving the inspiration, then please say, I’d love to have you. Caitlin says purchasing my Thrivers Live virtual ticket. And this is allowing me to choose the option of VIP virtual. But I’ve heard it’s not supposed to be sold out. Is this a mistake? I think it’s a mistake, but I think you should do it.
If you can snag it, get in while it gets good. But technically Thriver’s live VIP is sold out. But if it’s our, if it’s a mistake on our bat and you’re able to sag it, grab it. Why not? Amy says I’m currently enrolled in prep school. I see that thriver society is now open. Do I register now without finishing prep school? Yes. And you’re gonna keep PrepSchool. Prep school is not strategic in the way the thriver society is.
Prep School is the introduction to my methodologies and all of the systems. And you get to see the pyramids and the different ways of pricing. And it’s very basic information, right? It’s a good introduction, which is why we call it prep school like preps you, but most of the people in this room, I’m gonna go ahead and say joined without doing prep school prep school wasn’t introduced until May 2021.
So we’ve had a few thousand people go through it now. But a lot of these people in the room went straight into thriving. Most of them were straight into thriving. Some went into others, but most went straight into thriving and that’s where they found massive success. You don’t need to finish prep school.
That’s it for this one. I hope you enjoyed this bonus episode. As much as I did. If you have any questions about any of our thriving stylist methods, you can head to www.thrivingstylist.com or you can email [email protected]. My team is standing by the help. So much love, happy business building, and I’ll see you on the next one.
