Britt
What is up and welcome back to the Thriving Stylist Podcast.
I’m your host, Britt Seva, and today is a full circle moment.
So in the summer of 2024, I released a podcast episode called The Thriving Stylist 60, an experience for hairstylists and salon owners.
It was episode number 343.
And then episode 371, I released in the fall of 2024, and it was called Woo Woo episode, How I Got Realigned.
I created this thing called The Thriving Stylist 60.
I didn’t realize at the time, it was everything I needed for myself.
And when I created it, what it was was a play on something that’s called 75 Hard.
So 75 Hard is something that was created by a man named Andy Frisella.
He is a, I don’t know if he’s a billionaire, but he is a hundred millionaire for sure.
He’s deeply successful.
And he created this challenge in 2019.
It was called 75 Hard.
And it was about transformative mental toughness through the power of habit.
And what he said was this was to boost confidence, self-esteem and grit.
In 75 Hard, which is his program, not mine, there were the series of things that you needed to do every single day.
So number one was follow a diet.
And it could be any diet that you wanted, but it has to be structured.
So you decide I’m only going to eat these things.
I’m not going to eat these things.
You’re going to follow a diet plan for 75 days.
You had to complete two 45-minute workouts every single day, one of which had to be outdoors.
So 90 minutes of physical activity every single day.
Take a progress picture, drink a gallon of water, and read 10 pages of a book, audiobooks not included.
So what he said was, if you could complete this, you would gain confidence, self-esteem, perseverance, self-worth, self-belief, fortitude, and grittiness.
What was interesting is he didn’t say you’re going to lose weight.
A lot of people did.
I mean, doing 75 days straight of physical activity, following a diet, drinking a gallon of water, taking a progress picture, doing something for your mind, there’s going to be a positive outcome.
What he found was, let me see if I still have it.
It was something like, I think, less than 3% of people who start it are able to finish it.
And what it showed was how hard it is for adults today to follow through with a growth plan, no matter how bad they want it, to stick to structure, stop making excuses for themselves.
And that’s why he founded this based on confidence and resilience and self-esteem, as he was like, if you can do this for 75 days, two and a half months, it’s going to change your life.
I loved the concept.
I shared in episode 343 that I saw another influencer’s take on it and I still, I’ve never seen the post again.
It hit me last summer and it was a baking challenge.
And it was, I like to bake, so I’m sure that’s why it got served up to me.
And it was like bake something every day for a certain amount of days, whatever.
And I was like, oh my gosh, I love that concept.
I wonder if we could do it as hair stylists.
So in 343, I created this program called Thriving Stylist 60.
And it was a take on 75 hard, but the exercises were different.
So I’m going to recap what they were.
Connect, and in Connect, you were supposed to like 20 Instagram posts and comment on at least five every single day.
There was capture, which was capturing 60 seconds of your day in micro moments and sharing it to your story or your feed.
Then there was be a day maker, an act of kindness.
Then there was a reflect journaling exercise.
You did have to drink a gallon of water a day, and you had to read 10 pages of a business book.
I know I just went over that in 60 seconds.
If you want to hear the entire episode, you can.
It’s episode 343.
Like I said, it’s called The Thriving Stylist, 60 Experience for Hair Stylists and Salon Owners.
I’m coming back here with a new challenge.
The reason being, I cannot emphasize enough how much that Thriving 60 Challenge changed my life.
I get emotional thinking about it because I went through very difficult years just as a human being from 2021 to 2024.
And I didn’t realize how difficult it was until now.
Like now in 2025, I can look back and see it very clearly.
But when I was in it, I couldn’t feel it.
I didn’t recognize it.
I didn’t understand.
I know why very much.
I know why, but I didn’t see myself in it.
And when I did this Thriving Stylist 60 thing, it was like I woke up.
I didn’t intend for the Thriving Stylist 60 experience to be as impactful for me as it was, but I cannot emphasize enough it changed my entire life.
I will be grateful for it forever.
It served me probably more than it ever served anybody else who tried it.
And the universe and the world work in mysterious ways, because what I created for you all ended up being one of the better things I’ve ever done for myself.
I know firsthand how impactful it is when you choose to change your habit and your circumstances.
That was, I think, my biggest key takeaway is we all know humans are creatures of habit.
All of us are.
And all of us have weird habits and weird traits and things we like and things we don’t.
And we’ve been told by a lot of business coaches and a lot of studies that like habit is the way to succeed, like develop habit.
What this experience taught me is a lot of us are stuck in really bad habits.
So there’s a lot of really great talk about like develop a morning routine and create a new habit.
Sometimes you develop habits and patterns that you thought were good, that are actually terrible for you.
And so what I found, at least for myself, in doing the Thriving Stylist 60 was letting go of some patterns and habits that I had once thought I desperately needed.
Like they become my crutches.
I can’t emphasize this enough.
I was like, oh, this is the way I do things.
This is my routine.
This is my system.
I love it.
And until I gave myself a chance to change habit and change pattern, I didn’t realize those were not habits.
Those were crutches.
Those were not things that were pushing me forward.
Those were things that pushed me back.
And what I think is that as humans, habit is great, routine is great.
Shaking it up is the most important thing you can do because until you get a chance to experience greatness, you’ll settle for good.
And I wanted to create another experience, kind of at the one-year anniversary of the Thriving Stylist 60.
I want to create something called the Thriving Salon Owner 60, dedicated to growing as a leader of a salon in 2025 and beyond.
And I wanted to do this as an opportunity to change habit, to think differently, to experience leadership differently, to connect with your team differently and to elevate.
This will be very simple.
If all goes the way I think it will, you will be shocked how much change is in two and a half months.
Well, in our case, two months.
Now, if you’re not a salon owner, go back and listen to episode 343.
There is nothing for you to buy.
There’s no promotional element.
So if you’re like, here she goes again, talking about that Thriving Stylist 60 thing, it changed my life.
I can’t emphasize it enough.
Like I said, I didn’t do it from a promotional perspective.
I thought it would be fun.
I am shocked at how life changing it could be.
So if you’ve not experienced it, I do suggest going back.
For me, what I will say is the biggest takeaways were capturing my days.
It gave me a really different perspective on the life I was actually living.
Capturing my days was way more eye-opening than I ever imagined, way more eye-opening than I designed it to be.
It was shocking.
Being the day maker and remembering gratitude, the reflection journaling.
Oh my gosh, that was huge.
I’m not a journaler.
I hate journaling.
So if you’re like, I don’t like journaling.
Yeah, me either, me either.
And then the drinking a gallon of water.
So I still drink a gallon of water a day.
I can’t believe I’m somebody who hates water.
I hate it.
I’m one of those freaks who like hates water.
I can’t stand it.
I had a gallon a day most days.
There’s probably a small handful where I haven’t hit it.
I sleep better.
I look better.
I feel better.
Like, I can’t express how that has changed me.
So that’s actually going to pull over into this one as well.
If you’ve not tried it, it’s worth a shot.
It’s incredible.
Okay, so let’s talk about this new challenge, which is going to be called the Thriving Salon Owner 60.
And if you’re an owner, I would love for you to participate.
Last time we did something like this, there was this whole Instagram element where I was like, tag me in and hashtags.
What I didn’t realize, and as soon as the challenge started, I realized it.
Hashtags were already phasing out.
So what I thought was going to be trackable was not.
Well, now in 2025, Instagram openly said that they’re phasing them out.
Back then, last summer, I didn’t know that.
That was one of the ways I saw the key indicator.
I was like, oh shoot, they’re screwing with hashtags because I can’t track this the way that I want to.
And then fast forward six months and they publicly announced that yes, they had been screwing with them and yes, they’re phasing out.
So let’s skip all the tracking.
Let’s just have this be a unique journey you do for yourself as a leader if you feel so inclined.
And what I would love for you to do is DM me in 60 days after you’ve done it, or leave me a rating or review and tell me about it, or in the Thrivers Society community, give us a share about it and let us know what it’s done for you.
I would just love to know your key takeaways.
I live for the transformation, so I’d love to hear what it is.
Okay.
So this one, there’s only five things you got to do if you’re going to participate in this Thriving Salon Under 60.
Number one is called Connect.
My vision is that every day you work, so not on the weekends, but every day you work, you give one team member 10 minutes of undivided attention a day, whether they know they’re getting it or not.
This is going to be magical, I think.
So let me explain what I’m thinking.
For a team member, this week, you might have a great conversation with them, and it can be casual.
It doesn’t have to be a sit-down formal meeting.
It can be just like, hey, I don’t think I know anything about your family.
Tell me a little bit about yourself.
Or what are some of the things you’re working on this year?
Or how are you feeling about your specialty and the clients you’re serving?
Or what educators are really inspiring you right now?
Literally just have a great human conversation.
Do it for 10 minutes.
That could be one way to do it.
You could also sit down in the back room and review their KPIs and ask yourself, does it make sense for this person anymore?
Are they achieving them?
Did they used to be achieving them?
And now that they’re not, look at their sales, look at their growth, look at how they’re marketing themselves, look at the opportunities that are missing in their business.
Watch them do a haircut, watch the way they speak with their clients, analyze the way they interact with other people on your team.
Pick a team member and give them 10 minutes of undivided attention a day, whether they know they’re getting it or not.
So if you have five team members that you currently lead, and you’re in the salon five days a week, every single person on your team is going to get 10 minutes of your undivided attention every single week, whether they know it or not.
Does this make sense?
If you have a 10-person team, that’s fine.
For over a period of two weeks, you’re going to give yourself 10 undivided minutes every single day to connect with one person either behind the scenes or in person with them.
What it’s going to do is it’s going to give you a really fresh perspective on everybody you have in your building, and it’s going to be good, bad, ugly, or indifferent, and you’re going to learn more than you can even imagine.
Number two is going to be grow.
I want you to commit to doing one marketing related task daily, so I have options for you.
Post on social media.
I see you salon owners.
I know your posting frequency has declined.
So maybe for you, it’s just committing to posting every single day.
Or you can upload photos to your review site, so Yelp or Google.
Updating a Stylist bio page on your Instagram, or I’m sorry, updating a Stylist bio page on your website.
That would be part of the marketing funnel that counts as marketing.
Updating the home page of your website, that very much counts as marketing.
Organizing a photo shoot for your team.
Re-evaluating your referral program.
Every single day, I want you to commit to doing one marketing-related task.
It doesn’t have to be long.
It doesn’t have to be time-consuming.
It has to be something.
Something to grow the business forward every single day, okay?
Number three, this one I think might be the hardest of all.
It’s called Get Humble.
And what I want you to do is every single workday, it doesn’t have to be on your days off, I want you to note something that could be being done in the salon better.
Could be communication, could be motivation, could be schedule, could be inventory, could be budget, could be retail, could be payroll, could be lighting, could be photography, could be amenities.
But don’t just make a list of random things that could be done.
I want you to really do this with eyes wide open.
What’s going to happen is at the end of this experience, you’re going to have a list of 60 things in your business that could be done better.
By the way, you don’t have to take action on all 60 of them.
But I think what you’re going to find is there’s going to be these very clear patterns that appear.
The reason I’m calling this be humble is because, I don’t know if you know this or not, I myself lead a team of employees every single day here in this coaching business.
I’ve had to become very humble and see my own flaws all the time, and see the flaws in the business that I’m building constantly.
It has become a game of accepting the fact that I’m very flawed as a leader, but have a deep yearning to be the best leader I possibly can be.
The thing that has helped me the most is to get really good at seeing my fatal flaws, noting them, and over time rectifying them.
Not in real time, it takes way more than just a day to fix all of the problems in any given business.
But if you, every work day, choose to get humble and make note in a journal somewhere of one thing that could be done better or isn’t going well, it is going to give you a totally different perspective on your business.
Number four is going to be drink one gallon of water a day.
This is just good health.
If you know me, you know I’m a sucker for a Fountain Diet Coke.
I love it.
I love my morning cup of something hot and wonderful just like everybody else does.
Drinking a gallon of water a day.
You can still have that fountain soda if you like, whatever.
But I want you to commit.
Do a gallon of water a day.
You will be amazed at how it transforms your life.
And lastly, this is actually a lot of these.
I’m like, this might be the hardest for you.
This is going to be the hardest for some of you.
I want you to read ten pages of a leadership book every single day.
For those of you who are not readers, I will give you alternatives.
I’m not okay with you skipping this.
I’m okay with you doing it in a way that it works for you.
Alternatively, you could do an audio book.
Alternatively, you could choose to listen to a leadership-based podcast every day for 60 days.
Some leadership training every day for 60 days could be a physical book, an audio book, or a podcast.
I’m okay with all of them.
I brought some book recommendations.
If you don’t know any good leadership books, by the way, do this because I did this and I was incredibly disappointed.
I was like, maybe I’ll do a Google search and see if there’s any good leadership books out there I’m missing.
Do it.
Google search, good leadership books.
Let me tell you, I have read 80% of what shows up in a Google search and 98% of the 80% of those books I’ve read are not good.
So I pulled the ones that have actually been impactful, not just to me, but to other incredible leaders I know.
The ones I’m going to personally suggest are Do Lead by Les McKeon.
I’ve suggested that before.
It’s one of the most impactful business books I’ve ever read, Do Lead.
The One Thing.
The One Thing is not necessarily just leadership based, but I think as a leader, understanding the one thing concept is really, really important.
There’s another book is called No Rules, Netflix and the Culture of Reinvention.
It has a red cover.
It’s great.
It reads.
It’s a storybook.
So for those of you who are not readers, that’s a really good entry point.
It’s basically how Netflix built the culture that it has and went from a business that had a really rocky potential future to the incredible company and conglomerate we know that it is today.
It talks about how they did that through team development.
It’s a really great book on effective leadership.
If you’ve not read it, I suggest it.
And then either Crucial Conversations or Crucial Accountability.
Both really good books.
So that’s five books you could listen to.
You could also find a leadership podcast that you want to dig into.
Somebody is going to DM me and be like, what are some good leadership podcasts?
I don’t listen to any, so I don’t have a need to personally suggest, but I’m sure that there’s some wonderful ones out there, so you could check that out as well.
Okay, so this is the Thriving Salon Under 60.
Your goal, if you choose to accept it, is to connect, grow, get humble, get healthy, and educate.
And I strongly believe if all of us as leaders choose to do those five things for two months, we will be 10 times better leaders than we are today.
I’m going to participate.
I hope that you participate, too.
And then I will share in the future my biggest takeaways from my Thriving Salon Under 60.
And as I always say, so much love, happy business building, and I’ll see you on the next one.
