4 Video Marketing Best Practices for Salon Professionals to Accelerate Business Growth

If the idea of video marketing makes you feel…well, uncomfortable, we get it. Showing up on video feels a lot more intimidating than typing out a clever caption to post with that client hair shot, right

But studies show that today’s consumer wants video. In 2022, it’s predicted that online videos will make up more than 82% of all consumer internet traffic. And Hubspot found that 54% of today’s consumers want more video from businesses they support.

Meaning video? It’s here to stay. And if you want to grow your business, it’s something you cannot afford to skip.

Yet for many of us, stage fright, and the fear of doing it wrong or being judged keeps us from showing up in front of the camera. So how do you overcome your fear and use video marketing to the fullest in your business?

Today, we’re going to break down the four four video marketing best practices to accelerate your business growth while making the best use of your time!

#1. Always educate and add value

We’ve all seen those videos that promise BIG things…but the actual video doesn’t live up to the hype. Instead of the major takeaways they promised, it just feels like wasted time.

Think about it: are you going to rush out and spend your money with a business who creates video content like that? Probably not.

That’s why every single video you make should educate and add value to your viewers’ lives. That doesn’t mean it has to be boring or stuffy (a la “Bueller”). You can still make it fun and branded, but you have to show up with life/mind/gamechanging tips that your followers will love.

Make it worth their time and they’ll be in your chair before you know it.

#2. Keep it short & get to the point fast

Did you know the adult attention span is eight seconds? Eight seconds. Meaning you don’t have time to waste when you’re kicking off your video. Get to the good stuff as soon as possible.

The best way to make sure you’re getting to the point quickly? Plan what you’re going to say beforehand. You don’t have to write a full script if that’s not your thing, but knowing what you want to say will help you get right to it when the camera starts recording.

#3. Add captions

Captions might feel unnecessary when you’ve spent so much time crafting the perfect message, but here’s the thing: 85% of Facebook video is watched without sound…and we’re willing to bet that those people are watching without sound on other platforms too.

Adding captions also makes your videos more accessible and widens your potential target market.

So how do you hook those dream guests in when they’ve got the volume down? You guessed it: captions.

We personally love to use Instagram’s automatic caption feature (after recording your video, tap Stickers, then Captions) or MixCaptions!

#4. Quality counts

An incredible 95 million videos are uploaded to Instagram daily, so if you want yours to stand out and make an impact, the quality has to be there.

  1. Plan your video. Even if you like to be spontaneous, have a general plan of what you want to say and what you want your viewers to do at the end.

  2. Check your lighting. Good lighting can make or break your video.

  3. Educate and add value (yeah, it’s so important that we’re putting it in here twice).

Whether you’re 100% comfortable in front of the camera or just the very thought gives you stage fright, these four video marketing best practices will ensure you create the video your clients and followers want to see from you!
